Wow awesome to find out your not the only one with this problem, not being able to burp wasn't too big a deal for me because I kinda just fart it out haha but recently I've been working at a restaurant and since I get free soda and only 10 min. Breaks to eat, I guess I eat to quick and swallow a lot of air as well, and when I go back to work i have to be fast, I move too much and then I start to feel bloated to the point where I can't even really breathe, I feel like vomiting just to get rid of the air and the only thing that works is the finger down the throat thing for me. I just push down on the back of my tongue to avoid hitting my uvula and that usually does the trick! We need to find a better solution for this because it affects a lot of us in our work and daily lives :( maybe one day
Omg I cant believe there are so many of us with this! I am having this problem right now and I was looking for an answer, and found this! I have never been able to burp, except my mom said I did when I was a baby. I have burped very small little burps about once a year, sometimes 2x. Its always when I least expect it and it just comes up. The rest of the time, I just get those weird throat gurgles that everyone is talking about. I get the chest pains and think I am going to have a heart attack too. I get hiccups all the time. I had an endoscopy about 3 years ago and the doctor didn't see anything but they weren't looking for anything either.. Well.. I had cancer so they were making sure there wasn't any cancer in my GI tract..But they weren't looking for a solution to my burping problem. I never mentioned it because at that time it was the last thing on my mind. On a CT scan though, the results said probable hiatal hernia. Again, they were looking for cancer, not a GI problem, so they weren't focused on that. Well the latest thing to happen is that my dentist noticed my enamel is becoming severely damaged over the past few years so something is going on. I do drink a little bit of acidic drinks but not any more than I ever have and its not every day or anything. So it seems like I have acid reflux too. Also someone mentioned this all caused them to have anxiety that they were going to throw up as a kid, and it made me remember a phase I went through as a kid. I would get a horrible puking sensation and ended up running to the school office and telling them I was going to puke. They sent me home a few times but after about the 5th time in a month, they questioned it and my mom took me to the doctor. They couldn't find anything wrong. The doctor said I had anxiety. I knew it was not anxiety alone, it really was a puking feeling. And its the same feeling I have to this day at 33 years old. The only relief that I have ever found is to gag myself with my fingers like some other people mentioned. I actually did this about 6 months ago and I wish I thought of it sooner. It was a particularly bad time and I think I had a few glasses of Coke. The bubbles just about killed me. I took a couple gas-x and no relief so I gagged myself over the course of a couple hours. It took a few gags to get enough air out but I finally did. It was immediate relief. The burps were not normal, but were just loud and released it all at once. Anyways, I am thinking of asking for another endoscope to test for something else- has anyone heard of the schatzki ring disorder?! One of the symptoms is not being able to burp! I am convinced I have it.
I hate to say this but doctors don't have a clue on what we are going trough or even what we are talking about. There's no real medical interest in this subject but it's something that really affects all of us. Personally i feel like i'm wasting my younger days because of this condition that makes me unable to go out with my friends without having to stick my fingers into the throat and relieve a super loudly burp. I don't even feel confident to find a job because i get sick with this gas problem sometimes during the day. I've consulted some doctors (waste of time) and did a lot of research, but unfortunately i'm not confident about the future when it comes to this matter...
I have to do exactly the same bro. It's good to see we're not alone in this kind of situations, but is sad to know that it probably doesn't have a "cure" :(
Does the magnesium citrate help you to burp or does it just calm your gurgling, etc?
I also cannot burp and I do the gag trick to relieve myself. I have had several endoscopies and they never show anything wrong. It is very frustrating when you ask the Dr. and they act like your crazy.
I have been successful in gagging myself with my mouth closed around my finger. It is mush quieter but hard to do.
Does anyone else also get really bad heartburn?
