i am physically unable to burp.

All my life i have been unable to burp. I have these awful embarrassing involuntary gurgles that are sometimes loud and others not as loud. As long as i could remember, i have felt bloated after i eat too much or drink anything. Many people have tried to teach me how to burp but i simply cant. Almost everytime i yawn though, i always seem to let out a tiny burp or maybe a gurgle and i feel a little relief. i have noticed i yawn a lot more than other people, maybe this is a way my body tries to get out the access air. I hardly throw up or get sick. I have thrown up maybe seven or eight times in my life and i am 17 now. I do remember everytime i throw up i belch really loud before doing so. It sounds horrific and i have never heard anyone burp the way i do when i am sick. No one believes i cant burp, even the people who have heard my gurgles. My mothier thinks i am weird and refuses to take me to any kind of docter because she thinks i am making this up. i am afraid that if i dont get help soon i might just blow up. Recently, i was curious if i was the only one with this problem so i did some research online. I have come to find that many people have experienced what i have but i have heard nothing about a cure or a name for this problem. If someone has an answer or the same or similar problem, please let me know (:

thank you so much,
paige.

I think that we must create our group on some social network as we  be able to follow the news in the sense that someone finds an answer.....

I've found something. For those of you who can't burp, I want you to do a test. When you eat, half-chew your food and swallow it quickly. If it gets stuck in your esophagus and you have to wait for it to settle, you have Schatzki ring. Schatzki ring is a disease where a constriction in your esophagus contracts that particular area. It could possibly be the cause of the inability to burp, and an endoscopy would check to see if you have it, and correct it. Hope this solves the problem for you guys!

There's also this uncomfortable gas ball that sits at the bottom of my stomach, which makes it painful to sit. Sometimes I have to stand up to get it to settle, but it just sits there, and I'm wondering if it may cause problems later on. Any help would be great!

I have this same problem. I'm 14 and I've only burped three times: once before vomiting. I've tried almost everything: from chugging soda to trying to force air down, and I just can't seem to do it. I would have tried the "finger down the throat thing" but I heard that if you hit your uvula, you vomit. And since I have emetophobia (the fear of vomiting or anything related to vomit) I'm too scared to try. The only people who believe I can't burp are the ones who also can't. Anything else that you know of that can help me burp would be great! All my friends just sit there and belch for what seems like forever, and I'm the only one who can't. Thank you!

There is a sphincter in the oesophagus that when gas enters will relax to allow the gas to escape. You can have a problem where this does not occur so the gas build up and put pressure on the surrounding tissue causing the discomfort. The gas will always clear by secondary peristalsis but it's not comfortable. It is advised to eat small meals often and avoid gas producing foods and drinks to reduce the symptoms.
