A year and still no answers.

Doctor,

I've suffered with depression and anxiety for years.  Although, just recently, I've started Prozac (still too early to tell of my progress).  However, the past year, I've also picked up another wonder mental disorder - Hypochondria (makes sense, doesn't it?).  It started with a bad bruise and migraines combined with Depersonalization.  Eventually, the migraines stopped and thankfully, the Depersonalization went away after a few weeks.  I mistakenly googled illness that matched my symptoms and came across HIV.  Talk about the worst 6+ months of my life!  I KNEW I had it.  But 2 tests later (one at 4 months and one at 6 months), I was proved wrong.  Although, I still have those days where I just KNOW I have it.  Since then, I've had various episodes of a sore throat.  It started with Tonsillitis (something I've never had before).  I have large tonsils to begin with.  But since I've gotten Tonsillitis, I've had a sore throat on and off.  It's usually like once a month.  I've always had unusual bowel movements (I hardly ever go).  But recently, it's been kind of crazy.  I've also dealt with a lot of nausea and loss of appetite.  I haven't lost any weight, though I've admittedly gained a few pounds.  Some days are better though.  I had a very bad yeast infection from the antibiotics and I went through a month phase of thinking I had herpes.  Negative blood test and negative culture tests.  I've been tested for all STDs and it is all negative (multiple times).  I've had two CBCs done and all normal.  My pap smears are also normal.  I have had ultrasounds done and a sonohystogram done.  All normal.  I'm recently thought my broken tooth was the cause of it all.  I thought I had an infected tooth and it was causing me problems.  I'm getting surgery on Monday to remove the tooth, as well as my wisdom teeth.  But, the doctor said I didn't have a tooth abscess.

I'm so confused.  What is with the recurring sore throat?  What's with my crazy stomach and bowel issues?  Any more tests you'd recommend?  I'm ready to leave this part of my life.  I've been playing the guessing came for a year now and no doctor is that helpful.

I suggest you go see a psychologist who can help you unravel the reasons for you depression and or resulting fears.  If not,  see your local Pastor or whatever? who can help you see where this pain comes from.  You need the support because you have to let the pain out and envelope you for a short moment before it vanishes away.

Believe me, I'm not trying to trivialise depression. I for one know how serious it is. Depression in my opinion is a wound the body cannot heal, like an infection the body is unable to expell. The depression is the manifestation of the wound, whether emotional or a protracted physical illness that has taken its toll on the body. Eventually the pain from both travels inwards and results in an illness of the mind. The hypochondria is caused  by the mind scrambling to find an answer to why you feel this way, accepting it to be anything other than what it really is..that the problem is the mind itself. With depression and subsequent hypochondria, we start wishing it to be something serious so that 1. it will end soon, 2. that feeling so low and ill surely has to be caused by something serious.

Depression is serious. People give themselves a life sentence of sorrow, or even suicide, for usually a temporary problem. It must be treated properly.

Summer is just around the corner. I hope you feel better, and end the summer with a strong positive outlook that will get you through the winter.

Well, sounds just like me. I could have swore I was about to die at any moment for the past year as I thought I had everything from cancer to anything else you can think of. A lot of the hypochondria is a symptom of depression. I'm bipolar I, and when I get depression, well, I'm dying! I'm not saying for a moment you have bipolar so don't go there either, but what I was beginning to say is that I had a broken tooth for a long time and discovered the infection that gets into the lymph system can wreak havoc on your health, you don't need to have an abcess to feel like crap with that. It can cause sore throats as your tonsils try to remove  the infection, the lymph node activate and try to remove it and it spreads. This can cause migraine, intestinal problems like nausea, spasms, and irritable bowel, fatigue, aches, and general feeling of being unwell..really unwell. Antibiotics can cause yeast infection. I just had the bugger removed and am still on antibiotics. The penicillin couldn't cut it and changed to Clindamycin..yucky stomach is all I can say. Get that tooth pulled, overcome the infection, and then get treated for depression...depression gives you a touch of the 'wannabesicks' ... hopefully you'll improve your mental outlook when your body isn't trying to fight off a prolonged infection as a result of a broken tooth. People like us have to get these things that seem trivial treated immediately, otherwise we think we're dying. Good luck
