Trazadone withdrawal or just pysch?

I take Trazadone 100mg everynight to help me sleep. In the past I didn't always have money for meds so sometimes at the end of the month I would have to wait a week or two  to refill my trazadone. I don't have money issues anymore bu occassionally I'll forget to refill the prescription or wait too long to ask my doctor for a new script. Sometimes now I have to go without for a few days. Now when I run out I experience a lot of negative symptoms (IE- agitation, anxiety, etc). I know that my dosage is kind of low, but are my symptoms a sign of withdrawal or is just psychological?

I weaned myself off of Trazodone.  Now I take Melatonin to help me sleep.  I didn't like feeling woozy and foggy all day.  There were some side effects when I quit the Trazodone;  I got angry and anxiety attacks.  But these finally tapered off and I am doing just fine with Melatonin.  I buy the 5 mg. tablets and cut them in half as 1 or 2 mg. is the recommended dose.  I sleep 6 - 8 hours a night and don't have the woozy, foggy feeling anymore.  Melatonin is something your body naturally makes - we just don't make as much as we get older - so I feel confident that I have made a good choice in not taking chemicals to help me sleep.  Melatonin is even safe for children in a small dose.

I agree with Blu, it could be withdrawal.  I took trazodone for about a week once to help sleep, but I was only on 50 mg, and I think you can get down to 25 mg.  Since you're up at 100 mg, it would make sense for you to have withdrawal from the sudden stop of the higher dose.

With a psychoactive drug like trazadone, yes, withdrawal symptoms can occur rather quickly.  This is because your brain chemistry has become dependent on a certain amount of this drug on a regular basis.  I suggest you write down how many pills you have today (example: 30).  Then write down every time you take one, and subtract it from the 30 for a total for 'inventory' purposes.  So say you do this, and get down to an inventory of 10.  THAT is the time to begin seeking ways to pay for and get a refill.  I hope this is helpful, and God Bless - Blu
