Tuberculosis

Today I was out with a friend. After that she told me that her family member is in hospital as he has tuberculosis. But I don't know what kind of tb it is. I am quite paranoid about this as afraid they as the family members stay together but they didn't test also. Is there any risk involved? She did cough once when I was standing in front of her.

Open type of tuberculosis(Cavitatory) are the main transmitting type but the others like lymph nodeTB there is little risk. Also remember that host resistance also plays an important role. If you have goor resistance or immunized with BCG you would be well protected. On the whole you need not worry.

Hi Jessica - you should contact your doctor and get a test to make sure you haven't been exposed. Your friend also should be talking with someone at the hospital to see what the risks are.
