Hello~I highly suggest seeing a chiropractor. You undoubtedly have many misaligned vertebrae due to the attack. The chiropractor will take x-rays of your neck, go over them with you, then start the adjustments, you should start to feel better after a few, but, it will take more than that to get you back to "normal
I have a neck injury from whiplash in a car accident over 20 years ago. Good times. The muscles are crazy the way they are all connected. Releasing the back of the neck from your front muscles of your neck is common. I did medical massage which was a life saver, saw a chiropractor and did physical therapy. All helped significantly. I would consider getting a full evaluation. Now, with the chiropractor, I had a huge issue with my neck being - cracked- up high, so they used other procedures. They used cold and heat, they used this machine that provided electrical impulses and finally this tool they have that mimicks the chiropractor cracking. Physical therapist provided massage, stretching an strengthening and also did cold/hot and the electrical impulse. The massage therapist released the muscles and while it didn't feel like one of those good feeling massages, I felt so much better later and learned about how everything connected. So, I'd get all of this evaluated and worked on. good luck
