As I have told you before PCR-DNA tests are not diagnostic tests. You'll have to wait it out and get your antibody tests.
Thanks Teak and Daver.
Tomorrow would be day 9 post exposure...I am mentally stressed out too much, lost my sleep, almost lost my job too because I think about this all the time.
My question to Teak is: 10 day PCR has a high false positive, what about its false negative? I guess, I am OK with a false positive, but more concerned about the result changing to positive from negative on the 28 day DUO after 10 day PCR.
Based on your research, how accurate 10 day PCR is? over 90% or so?
have you heard any case of someone going positive after negative in 10 day PCR?
thanks and apologies for my annoying questions.....
Stupid_717,
Relax and do not call off your wedding or go into meltdown.
Your foot story is ridiculous, but is making me laugh - especially with my symptoms and incidence being extremely suggestive of an infection compared to yours...check out my post and breathe a sigh of relief.
Do not go anywhere near any private clinic when you are in the UK. IF you want to spend £200 - £400 - call Terrence Higgins Trust - donate the money to them then go to an NHS GUM clinic.
Okay - you blacked out and have no idea regards what happened - you may have had sex. Just tell them at the GUM clinic - they will advise you.
Your fiance - just tell her your not feeling very up for it as you are stressed about work and the wedding if you are living together. Or just say you want to cool it for a while so its better on honeymoon.
Sorry for bombarding with questions....and thanks again for your help.
If I contract AIDs from that experience-- would the symptoms (sour throat, lymph nodes swelling etc) show up within2-4 weeks? does any symptom show up typically at all?
I'm not up to date on the testing periods for STDs sorry.
OK, so I will wait until DUO.
Does the same minimum 28 day-3 months post-infection window apply for testing other STDs too?
PCR test are not approved due to false positive tests. PCR tests are monitoring tests for people that have HIV to monitor the progression of the virus and their medications.
Teak, Thanks so much for the information and help.
what is the confidence level of PCR test? are these fairly accurate?
Or all I can do is wait and pray for 3 months?
Even with the DUO test a conclusive negative test result is still 3 months. PCR tests are not approved diagnostic tests.
thanks Teak. What about the 28 days DUO test? is it fairly accurate? and the 10 day PCR test?
Apologies for so many questions: what can one do to detect STDs/HIV after 2-3 days of exposure? I can't wait 28 days-- this wait is killing me.
For HIV you can test 6 weeks post exposure and if that test is negative you'll need to retest at 3 months to obtain a conclusive test result. For other STDs, contact the GUM clinic and they will advise you.
Btw, she was a prostitute in Russia-- i am sure they have a higher rate of HIV/STDs than other countries......
but she was not a street hooker....she had her documents etc...and spoke good english (unlike other russians)....
Not sure if this info is of any help.....
Thanks fpr the prompt answers. Like I said, the experience was on the night of Jan 23/morning of 24rth. How long do I have to wait minimum before... getting STD tests?
One question: what if the prostitute deliberately cut my foot (i remember breaking glass and NOT injuring my foot with it at all- that concerns me the most)....to transfer her blood (which is possibly infected)?
But at the same time-- she was so careful to clean the room and I found 2 used condoms in trash can in the morning. I am confused ....and making the worst assumptions...
what is the earliest/reasonably accurate test I can take ASAP. I don't care about money at this point-- if I need to call off my wedding due to disease I have contracted, I have to know it as early as I can
Your story is ridiculous and very amusing in suspicion of her deliberatley trying to do you over - have you checked for scars in case she stole a kidney - lol, god I'd love to be you instead of what I got up to...you've no risk at all.
Just get a general STD check to calm your anxiety - don't tell your fiance, and anytime you think of straying remember what happened last time.
If you are really panicing about giving her an std - I'd say get screened at the GUM clinic when you get off the plane - but I can't see how you could have caught anything at all - especially anything incurable.
You could not contract HIV in that manner. HIV is not transmitted via environmental objects such as a glass. Had you had unprotected sex then the testing guidelines is the same as the US. 3 months to obtain a conclusive negative test result.
