swollen gland symptoms, scared

hello forum,
I recently had a sexual encounter about a month ago where i had unprotected intercourse with a woman. A few days ago glands on the underside of my jaw became swollen. I have also had a cough and a mildy sore throat and runny nose for a few days. I also just noticed what i believe is swollen nodes on each side of my lower abdomen just in line with my hips. Does this sound like ars symptoms? Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Hi Scaredtodeth,

I can completely understand your fears. You have had unprotected intercourse, and that is where your risk is.

With regards to your symptoms, i do know that runny nose is not considered an ars symptom.

With regards to the swollen lymph nodes in your lower abdominal area, are you referring to the inguinal (groin) lymph nodes? They are located in the crease where your legs join with your hips, the crease can be easily seen when you sit down. It is said that inguinal nodes are frequently swollen, especially if people walk around barefooted.

I hope this eases your fears. But you should still get yourself tested ok? If you are unable to wait out the full 3 month period before a single test, you can do it once after sufficient time have passed (ie: 6-8 weeks after intercourse), and if negative, then test again after 3 months.

Wish you all the best.

May God bless

First off, thank you for your help and input. As for the swollen nodes in my lower abdomen- i can feel my inguinal nodes through hours of poking and prodding, but the enlarged ones seem to be a little higher than the crease where my legs join my torso. There is one on each side of my stomach, completely symmetrical. like they are a part of the stomach, and for all i know i could just be freaking myself out and they might just be some kind of muscle.

Do a NAT...if you are worried ,but it will still need to be followed up by a antibody test

Hi Scaredtodeth,

The ones higher up the abdomen you are talking about are highly unlikely to be lymph nodes.

But yes, you will need to have the tests done to have a complete peace of mind.

6-8 weeks test is to know ones status. 12 weeks is conclusive. Self diagnosing wont help. there are no specific symptoms on HIV. Only a test can tell. ars appears after 2-4 weeks potential exposure and will last for a week or weeks, please take note that ars wont come at the same time.

ars will come on all at once and are gone in a week to two weeks. You wont get one symptom on day and then one another and you don't get them months after an exposure. Again, there are no specific symptoms on HIV. A test is the only way to know your status

Hi Darkwingduck,

Relax, tom is only trying to provide you a good advise. Which is really what many experts in the forum advocate.

There is really no definite set of symptoms, and everything is based on the "average". So, generally, the symptoms, as advocated in this forum, comes on between 2-4 weeks, and last for about 1-2 weeks. Generally coming and going at about the same time.

Everybody's internal structure is set up differently, and may react differently to infections and diseases. So it is really hard to tell exactly when or which symptoms will come up (if one is indeed experiencing ars). Therefore, if you had a risk, what tomMulligan is trying to say, is to go get tested at the appropriate time.

If you wish to, you could have a test right away at this time, and then if negative, follow it up at 3 months. or wait out to the 3 month mark for one single test. The authorities in my area says to test after 1 month, and follow up at 3 month.

Take care.

May God bless

If it was ars would the glands all swell together or would one pop up here and there until they are all swollen?

Hi Scaredtodeth,

I will be very honest with you, i hate the question you have asked. Because i have experienced personally, glands popping up here and there a few by a few until they were all swollen, and still are right now, for more than 2 and half months already. Started coming up from since day 7 thereabout. I had been tested negative at 12 weeks and 5 days by rapid test, and i am still extremely worried because i don't know what and why the glands are swollen for.

That was just some sharing on my part. For you question, i don't think it is easy to tell, i would think both of the options you have listed may happen in different people.
Different people may react differently, that's all i can think.

May God bless

i'm in a semilar situation i got my 13,14,15 week antibody test and still scared to death because of unexplained pain underarm ,sorethroat and inguinal lymph nodes in groin screened by ultra sound and in my neck. i went to test again in last week which was 18 weeks mark but they refused to test me since i still have a pending hiv test which scares me a lot since it's been almost 4 weeks and  still no results. i don't knoew if i should goto a diffrent clinic to test or what as my life has been on hold ?
