Results of my HIV test- still unsure about what my future test will say.

I had unprotected sex 4 times with someone hiv positive- but didnt tell me- I found out by emailing them anonymously over a gay dating site where they respond - Im Pos.  My ex before him was positive, though we hardly had sex, and always protected.  We were both escorts (im not an escort anymore). I then had a 2 night stand with a high risk guy- that i never spoke with again. I know the status of 2 of my exes were hiv positive,   I had all of my high risk encounters between Nov- Febuary 14. Because of this I went to a clinic. I got a test where you get the resuslts from blood in 30 mins. The test came back negative. They called me a week later and told me I had syphillis. I went to another clinic that week, had more specific tests to see how reacitve I was and had a shot. I went to the clinic again 3 months after they told me I had syphillis and 3 months after my high risk partner which was exactly 6 months after the contact unprotected with the confirmed hiv partner.  I looked at the website for my clinic and a syphillis test cost extra-  is it possible they thought i was high risk and went ahead and tested me for syphillis? Is that legal? The HIV test was negative. My mind has still never been totally at ease.  its been a year I have not had sex of any kind because of this! Im so scared to take more hiv tests. I've convinced if I have a new test it will be bad news.  I am thnking of testing myself with an at home kit- of new years this year.  I cant take the anxiety of going to the clinic- Im highly depressed and convinced myself it will not be good news.

I have only had 2 hiv tests in my life- both after my reckless behavior- before that I never had unprotected sex. 1st was 3months after the positive guy. 2nd 3 months after syphillis diagnoses and a different guy. Now- 1 year no sex- and last hiv test may 2009. the dates i had sex were december 3, 2008. and febuary 14, 2009. Tested negative but positive syphillis Febuary 18, 2009. Tested May 18 2009. Rapid hiv test negative. No test since then. Febuary 18, 2009 - present. No sex.  I believe I got syphillis through foreplay with a guy who said he had a birthmark on his butt that most people freak out about- but I now believe it was a rash that I exposed myself to- not through sex- but with rubbing and things.

Please help.

3 months is conclusive. Syphilis has no impact on the test.

you mentioned feb 18 to may 18. It is more than 12 weeks its almost 90 days. Test after 3 months is conclusive even if episode was high risk from what I read. Also from what I read on Dr HHH replies, after 6 weeks, retesting is not needed..he was replying to a homosexual guy having unprotected anal with a possibly high risk partner. Will find the link to post soon. However as for syphilis interfering I'm not sure. God Bless.

I would like to know- is it possible that I did not wait long enough and HIV will show positive on a new test after abstaining for one year.  Did having syphillis mess with my hiv test- is my test showing negative for another reason?

Well to end all this nonsense best thing you can do is go get tested end of story.... No the clinic didnt do anything illegal.. Be lucky they called and told you so you could get that std taken care of...

Another note I hope you have learned a lesson when it comes to unprotected sex.. Remember no matter what always use protection.. NOW GO GET TESTED!!
