Why 6 months if 12 weeks conclusive?

Hello everyone,

I posted a question a short time ago about whether my negative 86 day blood anti-body test was conclusive, definitive, etc... Everyone that has replied has said it's time to move on. My PCP suggests I should test out to 6 months. I 'm trying to move on with my life, but now I feel worried and anxious again. Am I truely ok? I have no immune system problems. So why is she suggesting testing out to 6 months?

Thank you for you support and patience, Mike

I'm sorry to cause people to have hard feelings. I just wanted the opinion about my pcp telling me to test out to 6 months. I'm was already struggling to convince myself that I'm not some unique case that is negative at 12 weeks then shazam positive after. I know what I did was stupid and foolish. I have only myself to blame and thats a fact. I want to just go on with my life and not worry anymore. Everything should be telling me I'm fine, but I still think about it all the time.

we are not a psychological counseling service...and we are not going to advise someone to test at 6 months to relieve their anxiety.  we dont deal with anxiety...we deal with the facts regarding hiv.

we are here to assess someone's risk and give them the latest and most up-to-date information out there...whether that concerns their risk or testing guidelines.

the CURRENT guideline is 3 months post exposure.  this is a FACT.

I do not feel that this was a post that related PRIMARILY to my situation. I was only giving mikenadhc my opinion as to how the situation that I am in related to my doctor and was only trying to help.
I believe that LIZZIE and Teak that both of you are experienced in the knowledge of HIV. Cause and effect.
However I do not feel that my doctor is NOT clueless.
Precautionary yes but not clueless. He is the head of INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
The ultimate stress relief for someone who believes that they were with some person who had HIV and had unprotected sex with them in any way I feel should get tested at least at 6-8 weeks and then again at 90 days,

My feelings are base on strictly how SOME people have an emotional fear from just getting information on this forum.

I do not disrespect any of the moderators who are certainly intelligent to give real answer.
But again there are people who no matter what you tell them on this forum would feel better getting tested.
I do not feel that I deserve to be ban from this forum just because I am expressing my feelings in my situation.
I hope that the forum understands.

Hello,
I recently had performed oral sex on a woman and as you probably know Teak and Lizzie and other members of this forum believe that it is a little or no risk event. However being me I was a nervous wreck and was tested with the HIV 1&2 antibodies test at eight weeks from contract to ease my mine.
It came back negative.
I was told by two labs and my GP that the test is 90% accurate.
My GP is head of infectious disease and he advised me to have one done at 90 days and another one done in six months. The same thing as your doctor advised you. He told me that way I would be 99.99% sure.

I am getting the 90 day test done next Thursday but I do not think that I will be getting the six month test.
The people on this forum are pretty knowledge and in my case (no risk) I feel thet a 90 day test is adequate.

I do not know your circumstances.
Hope that this helped.

just because someone has a M.D. after their name does not mean that they are hiv educated.

according to the fda, the manufacturers of the tests and the cdc...a CONCLUSIVE result is obtained at 3 months post exposure.

IGNORE HER and move on with your life.
