Well, the recommendations from the CDC are:
1. 2-8 weeks after exposure most people will come up positive. However, due to some false negatives and also some people have a delay in producing antibodies so you should get tested at 3 months which it looks like you did. At 3 months 97% of people would have produced antibodies. But rarely, can become positive after 6 months. So, I would get retested because you have symptoms and even though it is rare it is better to be sure as sometime you can get a false negative test. Have you been exposed to unprotected sex since the initial exposure? If so your partner should also get tested too. Hope this helps. It is not likely but best to be sure. Of course if your risk has changed you have to start over, but you haven't mentioned that. FYI, as you are probably aware condoms are never 100% protective. Let me know how it goes ok?
take care,

a someone recomment that ?how true is that ?

I would say if you are having symptoms after a 17 week negative DUO that they are related to something other than Hiv.

condoms cant be considered 100% safe because they CAN rupture.

let me tell you about the cdc...

you think when you call the cdc hotline you're talking to the cdc?  WRONG

you're talking to some "company" that has been hired to man the phones.  they read from a training manual that is ultra conservative and mostly outdated.

The expert doctors here at medhelp know their stuff and will tell you that the CDC is ultra conservative. They have to be to get the odd diamond in the rough that serocoverts a little later than the majority of the population that will seroconvert by 6 to 8 weeks.

The doctors in our expert forum have been studying Hiv for years and have excellent knowledge. When they advise that your results are conclusive you should believe them. The internet is full of sites that make people worry for nothing.6 Month window period is the biggest fraud there ever was,it's a lie.Outdated.We have come along way with testing since they use to call AIDS---GRIDS back then in the 80's.

OMG,Yes,100% conclusive.A 4 week DUO is 99% accurate so 17 weeks is final. You are so safe, you really need to stop worrying.Forget all about this and enjoy the new year.

Nothing to do with Hiv at all is what I would say.Honestly, there are people on this forum that would take that negative 17 week DUO and run and be so happy with it.You need to do just that.Come on,bring in the new year with happiness, not questions you don't need to ask.

Yes,both are final at 3 Months because the DUO looks for antibodies aswell and if you ask the experts doctors here at medhelp they say that p24 antigen can still be detected at 3 months.
