LVH

Hello, thanks for taking time to read my post god bless and happy holidays!  First I'll quickly introduce myself as a Male, 22yrs old, normal weight, 6'2, rather heathy lifestyle besides my diet I'll cheat sometimes. Non smoker or drinker. 8 months ago I was diagnosed with hypertension which was a shock given my physical history playing sports all my child hood and through High school.

I then got an EKG which showed some thickness so we had an echocardiogram set up, which went in to show mild (LVH). My cardiologist told me of this and I was, scared confused, so I came home googled and found it was very serious. I am now on losartan 100mg/hctz 25mg, and at night I take spironolacone 25mg. My blood pressure runs anywhere from 135/80-148/92 on the meds.  I cannot use a beta blocker, because late evening my resting Heart Rate gets to low 50's. But during the day runs anywhere from 80-60 resting. Typically get 80 more often after a full meal.

My body's been unresponsive to the meds I've tried so far HCTZ, LOSARTAN, DIURETICS, AMLODAPINE, (can't use beta blockers) Alpha blocker (alone) made my heart rate stay above the 100s anytime I'd move it's feel like my hearts pounding out of my chest.

Main concern is what am I to do when the doctor is running out of meds to try, my Bp still stays elevated, and I'm needing to keep it low because of LVH I have.... I eat a good diet, I get at least 30 mins treadmill a day, I try breathing yoga...nothing's helping :( he's suggested sending me to a hypertension specialist but I don't have money....anything I can try? I've been through a lot of tests for secondary causes all were normal.

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice, I really feel like my life is being shortened everyday from this since I can't control my Bp....I'm young and work so hard to be healthy..why is this happening?

I completely understand about being worried about your health. 22 is young age to have blood pressure issues. I think your exercise program sounds great. The only thing you can do is eat healthy and exercise if high blood pressure runs in your family your just more prone to it.

Yes I have checked kidney function in a kidney renal test all was normal, I'm not sure of my exact measurement at this point I will have to check on that soon. I do exercise almost everyday I try to get at least 30 mins on the tread mill uphill I walk 2 mins and jog for 2 mins so basically I jog 15, walk 15 uphill.

I have posted often but I am quitting, mostly I post because of no replays or no help on my issue. I don't get much answered from my cardiologist he's a quick short answer usually. I'm not stressed at this point just concerned with all that's going on I have none to really help me much or talk to. I'm just 22 and been through alit lately health wise. Any suggestions on exercise or anything? I eat an stay away from salt too don't smoke or anything like that. Thanks a lot for replying and reading you all godbless

My friend I had a quick look through your post history and it seems you have a new concern every week. I don't want to jump the gun here, but after you get your kidneys tested and any other test done and they come back normal I would seriously consider looking into your stress levels. You seem far to preoccupied with your health for a 22 year old. You need to STOP looking up every pain or issue, and just be. There's a different between being informed so you can work with your doctors to find the best solution for you and just over analyzing every single issue.

I was diagnosed with LVh at 17, and I have no history of high blood pressure. My LVH has not advanced since. I am now 28. At the time I leading an incredibly healthy and athletic life style. My questions to you are. What were the exact measurements of your heart. Mild LVH is a pretty broad term. Also, you mentioned your height, but not your weight, and lastly you say you're on the treadmill 30 minutes per day. Are you running, walking?

I'm taking 100 mg losartan/hctz it worked great for a few months but now it's not that affective at all. Seems when my systolic is real high my diastolic is normal or when diastolic is really high my systolic is close to normal...it's being very difficult I think losartan is an ace inhibitor?

Lisinopril is an ACE Inhibitor. Worked wonders for me when my bottom number was over 100.

Thanks! I know it can be frustrating! It's hard to treat me cause I can't take a beta blocker due to my low resting heartrate

I have the same issue. Pretty healthy 29 y/o with family history of high blood pressure. I've been on meds since I was 19 but recently my bp started going crazy I was in the ER with a bp of 165/117. So now I have to take labetalol 200mg 3 times daily, 25mg diuretic and 2.5mg of lisinopril. Finally it's under control but the meds are awful! I hope they find a med that works for you!

Are you taking your BP at home when you are relaxed, or at the doctor's office? Alot of people have white coats syndrome & get elevated BP readings at their doctors appts. I'm one of them. My readings are typically in the 160's /55-80 with my heart pounding and racing there, but at home relaxed it's great. Make sure that you have been sitting for at least 10 min. with both feet on the floor, relaxed, & arm supported & at heart level. It should not be taken after a meal or after caffeine. You can stress yourself out & get a phobia about your BP & that makes it high...You may want to google magnesium & think about adding it. Good luck!
