Oral herpes is transmitted by kissing, or to genitals via oral sex.
No risk as to sharing glasses or utensils, sharing towels or hugging.
Genital herpes is considered an STD. Genital to genital direct contact with heat/friction as well to transmit. Or, oral to genital contact. Question answered as to spreading it to your kids - obviously won't happen.
Most HSV1 is oral, although it can be genital as well (I have HSV1 genitally that I got from my partner through oral sex). HSV2 is most typically genital, although very infrequently can be transmitted from genitals to mouth via oral sex as well.
What type of herpes? Type 1?
