Lorsatan belongs to the drug class called angiotensin II receptor antagonists and does not have calcium in it. It basically helps improve your vascular resistance to blood pressure which lowers your overall BP.
A calcium channel blocker is a chemical that disrupts the movement of calcium through the cells which helps keep your heart from working too hard. It will not cause a build up of calcium in your arteries.
Also, please note I am not a doctor, just a volunteer who is knowledgeable in hypertension and heart disease. My role is to simply provide information so you can better understand your condition but you should still only accept medical advice from a trained professional. You should discuss these concerns with your doctor as nothing said here is meant to replace interaction with your doctor.
I hope this helps,
Jon
Hi ,
I have BP from the past three years, i started getting medicated from past 6 months, since then I am having Losartan 50 mg per day one tablet. Today my BP has come down to 135/80, any ways can I continue using the same medicine? Could you please tell me if Losartan Potasium has calcium in it. What is calcium channel blocker? My mom was treated with By pass surgery recently and she has been shown that there is calcium lesion that has been there in one of her heart arteries, Is it because of these tablets(Losartan Potasium). Please help me clarify this Doctor.

150/100 is high, but is still stage 1 Hypertension, but not really high enough to cause symptoms under normal circumstances. Have you discussed this with your doctor? He can certainly increase your dose or try another class of drug or a combination, there are many choices. Also, exercise is excellent for lowering BP, but you need to get your doctor's OK first.
Also, be careful not to check it too often. Your arteries need time to recover between readings so readings too close together can be artificially low. You should wait an hour or so at the least between readings.
Hope this helps,
Jon
