Yes, that is what it looked like, and later in the evening I had a mild headache and it still hasn't gone away completely, but the aura has disappeared. Thank you for your input.

If so, then it could be a migraine. This part of the migraine is called a Migraine Aura. You do not need to have a headache to have a migraine.
If it looked very different, I don't know what it could be.
No matter what though, you should go see a doctor about this. Especially if you have not seen a doctor about this before.
If it does turn out to be a migraine then a doctor could prescribe you a fast acting triptan (nasal spray or orally disintegrating tablet) in order to stop the migraine... a regular triptan in tablet form would not be good in your situation since in your case your situation resolves itself in under 30 minutes, so you would need a fast-acting triptan in your case, such as a nasal spray or an orally disintegrating tablet in order for it to be effective.
