I actually took the 25mg and cut it in half..so 12.5mgs....I could not move up to 25mgs...
Many Drs use seizure meds to help control HA's...so it is a common practice.
I also have a thyroid condition...Hashimoto's...and am very sensitive to meds....so I understand your concern as to what and how much you take....as I said the first 2 weeks were awful...as I was extremely fatigued...but after that initial adjustment I was fine and felt so much better,...
What dose did you start with at the beginning?
My neurologist wants me to try Trokendi first at a dosage of 25mg daily. It's new but really is Topamax in an extended release form. It's suppose to give less side effects because it's suppose to be consistent in your blood stream. I'm a bit nervous cause it's a seizure medication. I'm wondering if it would be better to try 25 mg Topamax and break in half to start. I'm very sensitive to medications. I also have thyroid disease which seems to make my headaches almost daily some weeks.
Hi I was on it, and the generic....there is an adjustment period for this med...I felt awful at first, but after the 2 weeks I did adjust and saw a benefit from it,
As mentioned above by Ball123, you should start on a low dose and slowly build up....I however was not able to get to a higher dose....but did well on the low dose I was on....I no longer am on it and am doing well, it did help me tho.
A lot of people do fine on this drug. It is very effective for most people if you don't get any side effects.
But you will start small and increase slowly I guess.
Give it a try!
