I would say that your hearing being clogged up is due to the increased blood flow to the eardrum,as of this rapid increase blood flow, if you can imagine your eardrum throbbing because of the pulse of the blood from the heart. The continual pattern of blood being supplied causes the blocked up feeling as more blood is being supplied to the head than usual. This of which you are not used to.
