in may i had a ct scan for a terrible migraine. the ct came back with a 3.8x 1.9 cm low-density extraaxial collection along the left frontal convexity with beveling of the calvarium, consistent with a chronic process. this is likely an arachnoid cyst in an unusual location. was sent for mri without and with contrast. the findings came back that there is an oval 4.5 cm extra axial CSF isointense structure lateral to the left frontoparietal lobe. there is associated thinning of the overlying skull consistent with pressure necrosis from chronic arachnoid cyst. there is a small arachnoid cyst also identified anteroir to the right temporal lobe. there is a punctate focus of increased T2 and FLAIR signal intensity within the subcortical white matter of the left occipital lobe. there is no corresponding restricted diffusion noted, therefore finding is consistent with an incidental focus of gliosis. no additional foci or regions of signal intensity abnormality are noted. No masses, regions of acute mass affect or additional extra-axial fluid collections are noted, and no abnormal intra-axial of extra-axial enhancement is appreciated. A partially empty sella turcica is suggested. there are small retention cyst and/or regions of focal mucosal thickening within the inferior maxillary sinuses. remaining visualized soft tissues and osseous structures are unremarkable for age.
my dr read this and refered me to neurosurgeon i could not get in any earlier than next month. i just want to know what all this means and did the cyst grow in the month between the ct and the mri or did it just show up better on the mri? i have also had a constant headache for the last 2 months, a lot of depression, anxiety, dyslexia, memory problems, i drop things, bump into things and have anger issues. will i have to have surgery? what is the best thing to do for the headaches? sorry so long and thank you :)
