Hi,
If we are considering basilar migraines here it is best to seek second opinion with a migraine specialist. At this point ,the usual medications given for the more common migraines are not applicable when one is considering a basilar migraine. Some of these medications may be even contraindicated.I suggest that you discuss this immediately with your physician.Ask your physician about preventive migraine therapy ( the use of antidepressants for instance).Preventive migraine therapy is the management of choice for complex migraines.Morphine is only used to offer temporary relief for the pain but may not necessarily help control or prevent an attack.
i have taken migralief, didnt work, i have taken maxalt too and that didnt get rid of it, my doctor just perscribed me ibprofen, which doesnt touch it in the slighest. thats why i have come on here to speak to somebody to see what is the best thing for me to do.
Hi,
I was actually thinking of a possibility that this was a hemiplegic migraine. But based on your more recent symptoms ,there were no signs of muscle weakness in any extremities. This may sound like a basilar migraine. Basilar type migraines present wih visual symptoms (blurring of vision, doubling of vision) , slurring of speech, and difficulty walking to name a few. These are the auras of basilar migraines and they should be reversible within the day.
Aside from the morphine drip , are you taking any medications? The more common abortive medications for migraine are not usually prescribed for basilar or hemiplegic migraines . Discuss with your physician the advantages of preventive migraine therapy.
it suddenly came i started experiencing headaches and was getting very tired for about a week and then the headaches got worse, i was vomiting, and seeing black dots and lines infront of my eyes, the pain was unbearble and i got rushed up to the hospital, they thought it was menningitus but it wasnt, they called it a disabilitating migrane. thy tried me on many tablets etc, only thing that would shift the pain from my head was a morphene drip, the migrane left me unable to talk and walk, the symtons lasted about 4 weeks and after physiotheropy i regained my strength back to normal. i still suffer from migranes now, there never as bad as that one though, i dont loose strength, but i see the black dots and vomit still. no painkillers shift them much, i was back in hospital this week for a night on morphene as the pain got so bad.
Hi Tanya.
That episode of migraines when you were eleven ,would you be able to elaborate more on that? You have posted that at that time you had speech and motor problems. Was there any visual symptoms as well? For how long did your symptoms last at that time? Did your symptoms revert back to normal after how many days?
Does anyone in the family also present similarly?
Any one with strokelike symptoms in your family?
You have also noted that after that episode when you were eleven, you had been experiencing headaches since then.Have you ever experienced the speech and motor problems again ?
