Multiple Stabing head pains

Okay so heres the deal. My grandmother (who's only 53) is having these "headaches" if you will. They last throughout the day with a pain across her whole top head. If she concentrates on something her pains get worst. She gets some neck pain along with these "attacks" and sadly she tends not to be able to eat. Majority of what she eats will end up in the toilet within a couple of minutes. These headaches have been going on for a few weeks....but didn't get bad until Monday when we had to take her to the ER. She was pumping gas, got a flash searing pain across her head and she collapsed to the ground. A few blocks away from the ER the pain stopped but the was replaced with a slightly throbbing headache. Apparanetly this isn't an aneurysm but other then that the doctors said it was nothing at all. I don't think so. If anyone has any information that could help We'd be really greatful.

Hi,

Given your grandmother's symptoms,it seems that supportive or non medical care without a thorough clinical assessment may not be able to give a definite resolution to the problem. I am not aware of how the health system works there since i am from the other side of the globe, however is there any other way that you can access  medical help or support?

i should also just say that she can't afford a doctor nor will the doctors around here help her cause she has no insurance...even though she has in the past paid all her bills from the doctors and clinic within a couple of months. Our clinic here that is supposed to help those who can't afford the hospital doctors, sit with her, asks questions then say well it's best if you go to a specialist and they don't even bother to help her. So i'm basically saying that if you know anything that would help away from doctors it would be awesome.

She had a cat scan and they said there was no blood on the brain. She's never really had a headache before in her life either....so we are totally lost. She also has no underlying disease, her blood sugar level is okay and no she hasn't had any tests done for Vascular insufficiencies.

My mother(who is 66) just got a MRA because her mother died at the age of 42 from a aneurysm, but that was in the 1950's.  My mother and all 3 of her daughters (including me) get migraines. None of her 4 sisters get headaches.  Because of her history she got this MRA and it showed something suspicious so she was sent for a CT Scan.  The CT scan showed a very small (4-5 mm) bulge on the right side of one of her blood vessels (I'm not sure about the technical terms), they said this is very common for people to have, but because of her history she is being sent to see a neuroligist, but it is not urgent so it may be months.  They also suggested all her sisters and daughters have a CT scan just to be safe.  I had one and it was good.  With all the modern tests being done now, I would think your grandmother could get a CT scan just to be sure it was nothing.  My mom is not worried now that she had the CT scan, they will probably just do a scan on her every year to make sure it does not get worse.  Hope this information helps.  It's very frustrating when the doctors don't take you seriously.

Hi,

Any diagnostic evaluation done like a CT Scan at the ER?

Any underlying disease like diabetes , hypertension, a previous stroke or cardiac problems?

Are blood sugar levels ok?

Any evaluation done to rule out vascular insufficiencies ( carotid duplex scans?)

Do keep us posted with your answers.
