Throbbing Headache

Hi Doctor,
I am having a throbbing headache past 2 weeks now. This happens at any hour of the day. It starts on my left side of the head goes down till the left hand. Water starts coming from my eyes, body becomes weak, I start gasping for air (am also asthamatic). I can also feel my heart beat at this time. Even after a good sleep, as soon as I open my eyes, this starts. I am 32 years of age and this is making me tensed. Painkillers also dont give any relief. Please advise, if you feel there is something serious.

Hi,

Have you been evaluated by a neurologist before?

I suggest that you seek consult and have your condition assessed. At this point we can not really say that this is still migraine. Most migraines transform into chronic daily headaches probably due to medication over use and other factors. In your case, you haven’t mentioned of any extensive use of medications,

Your headaches may need to be reclassified. A cranial CT scan including evaluation of the cervical spine may help. Also evaluation of peripheral vessels like the carotid vessels will be able to help.

Do keep us posted regarding your progress.

Thanks for replying. I have migraine for around 7-8 yrs now nut this kind of Headache has started past 2 weeks only. The throbbing starts gradually and ten falls down; remains there for around 15-20 mins. Post that i feel that i have no strength in my body. No vision blurring, nausea etc. No eye redness but at times tears do come. My Normal BP is 120/80. I take medicines for Asthama but rarely as i remain mostly on inhalers. I will not be able to comment on Sleep Apnea but dont snore. No one has told me to to have my neck vessels checked. In fact someone told me that this may be a acute cervical pain.

Please advise further.

Hi Sandy,

For how long have you experienced these headaches?

What triggers these headaches. Would you be able to identify any triggers?

For how long does the pain lasts? For hours , minutes or seconds?

Are the headaches associated with blurring of vision, nausea and vomiting?Any eye redness or tearing ?

You have mentioned of your fluctuating BP. Would you know what your usual blood pressure is ?

Have they tested you for orthostatic hypotension ( BP drops as one stands up)?

Were they able to assess your neck vessels?

Do you snore or experience sleep apnea?

I understand that this may be frightening and very discomforting.  Do you have any medications for your asthma? An asthma attack and its medications may cause palpitations.

Do keep us posted with your answers.
