period type pain and back pain 3 1/2 weeks after surgery

It has been three and a half weeks since my laparotomy to remove ovarian cysts. I'm currently experiencing lower back pain, bearable, but constant period type pain .Could anyone please tell me, is this just my body trying to get back into normality? I have no fever or redness around the incision area.

I had similar syptom and I am 6 weeks after laparotomy. And I've had two periods since surgery and they are very painful and heavy. I went for post-op and doctor couldn't explain why I have lower back pain.

Hi, I just got home from my vertical laparotomy where they removed my cyst, right ovary and tube.  I had hoped for a total hysterectomy but my adhesions prevented that.  I was shocked to have intense back pain and cramping start yesterday and then my period started (not due for a couple of weeks).  Doctor said it is normal for that and that for the first few months after the surgery that the periods will be very painful.  I hope that is all you are experiencing and that you are doing better right now.

Take care,
Trudie

Thank for your thoughts. No Temperature. Just feeling very tired most of the time.
Still getting some sharp pains on both sides of the groin area. As well as back and period type pain. Not constant though. I also find my thighs ache after walking around for to long a period of time. Still to see my doctor this Thursday. Thanks again.

Do you have a temperature?  If you have developed an infection in the area of the ovary it could be presenting with the symptoms you mentioned.  It is good that you are seeing the doctor soon but if you are running a fever you need to get in there sooner.

Yes, I had two cysts removed. However the cysts that were removed were not the cystadenoma that were on the original transvaginal ultrasound. They were functional cysts, so I have my concerns. Will see my doctor on Wednesday.
Thanks for your post . Much appreciated.

Hi, and welcome.  When you had your surgery, did you just have the cyst removed?  If so, maybe you are already developing another cyst.  I know I had a new cyst about 1 month after one of my surgeries.  If you are unsure, I would definatley ask the doctor to do a tvus at your 4 week checkup.  If it gets really bad, you can always call your doctor.  I'm sure there is an oncall doctor.  Good luck.

Hugs,
Kasie
