Complex Ovarian Cyst w/Laparoscopy

I am having Laparoscopy to remove my right ovary with a complex ovarian cyst on Wednesday and needless to say I am terrified!  I have read several posts here and it has made me feel much better about the procedure.  My Gyno said they would "flash freeze" the ovary to test for cancer and if present, they would do a full hysterctomy.  My only symptoms were dull crampy pains on my lower right side, but now I am having dull pain on the left side as well.  The transvaginal US showed a normal left ovary so I am somewhat baffled as to why I have pain there now.  Also, I am not passing much urine the last few days.  No burning is associated with it so I don't think I have a UTI.  Can they do the procedure if there if I have a UTI?

Thanks in advance!

How great that it's all behind you !!! Now... take it easy. .. Please don't try to rush into doing too much too soon. It takes a little longer for the "inside" to heal than the outside. Even though it probably looks fine, no lifting or heavy housework for awhile (2 weeks I was told)

If you have any gas (they actually introduce gas into the abdominal area to better view the organs) walking around really helps. I was lucky and didn't suffer with that .. so maybe you'll have the same luck ! And... drink lots of water. !!

Keep us posted and thanks for the update !! Let us know how the follow up goes and take it a little easy for awhile!
Take care,
Sandy

Hi Ladies!

My surgery wasn't bad at all.  I was in the OR at 1:30 and home by 6:30.  They removed the right ovary which had a complex cyst that wasn't cancer!  That was a relief, however I do have endometriosis as well.  My doc said we would discuss that at my follow up.  I may still need a hysterectomy though.  My husband said she mentioned that since mine is severe.  Overall, it wasn't a bad experience at all.  I had very minimal pain which I only took 2 doses of pain meds for.  I think the worst part was the sore throat from the breathing tube.  It was also difficult to urinate for the first 24 hours.  That has eased up a bit now thoough.  I am still a little bloated, but I would say I feel pretty good now.  :)

Thanks for your support ladies!  I'm a little apprehensive about today, but I'm trying to stay positive.  I don't think I have a UTI and TrudieC is probably right.  I will mention it before the surgery though.  I'll post my results when I get home.

Thanks again.  :)

Just wanted to chime in to wish you well on your surgery tomorrow. I'm sure all will be o.k. and you will find it isn't a bad procedure at all. I know its frightening, but just also wanted to remind you that cysts are 95% benign..good luck tomorrow and write when you're able.

Hi there.  The pain from cysts can refer to other areas and it can seem that there is pain on the other side.  This is quite normal and happened to me as well.  It is likely that your lack of passing urine is due to the cyst pushing on the bladder.  Do drink all you can today so you don't get a UTI and it will also help you with any possible constipation issues after your surgery.  Good luck tomorrow!
