Pathology News

Hi all

I had a 26 cm mucinous cyst removed on August 18.  Yesterday I went to the surgeon for my post-op results, and the news was the best that I could have expected:  though there was malignancy and borderline malignancy found in the right ovary (the one they removed), there was no sign of any spread.  They biopsied my appendix, omentum, 5 lymph nodes and washings, and nothing was found.  So I'm at stage 1a, grade I.  I don't need any further surgery right now, and no chemo!  I will be going for regular U/S, probably every 3 months, as a means of watchful waiting.

This morning I went to my GP, who is going to start me on a course of IV vitamin C.  Apparently high dose (and I mean more than you could take orally) ascorbic acid has been found to have cytotoxic properties, and I'm going to do it just to make sure there are no errant cells floating around inside me.  If you want to read up, follow this link:  http://www.doctoryourself.com/riordan1.html.  Can't hurt, right?

Anyway, I feel relieved, but not as relieved as my mother.  I think the possibility of losing her daughter really shook her up.  Me?  I wasn't so worried.  Whether it's because I'm a Pollyanna, or because I got so much reassurance and information here, I don't know.  I just want to say thank you again for sharing your stories, and your kind words. It's hard to imagine how important communal support is until you need it!

Hugs
Toni
