Complex Cysts

I am 28 years old and my husband and I have been trying to concieve for over a year. We were refferred to an infertility doctor by my gynecologist. My recent ultrasound showed that i had two very large cysts. They put me on birth control pills. One went away and the other i have been told is complex and has remained the same. I was also told that i have a thick uterine wall. My doctor has asked to meet with my husband and I next week (two weeks earlier than scheduled) and i am worried. He wants to talk about laproscopic surgury. Should i be concerned with cancer or something here? I also have ulcerative colitis.

I would imagine that with the inflammation of ulcerative colitis that perhaps it could impact laparoscopic surgery.  I hadn't thought of that before.  There were lots of issues around my surgery because of my J-Pouch.  My gyn brought in a general surgeon as well in case there were problems around my pouch and intestines.  I am most worried about the stress of surgery and hoping it doesn't result in a flare up for you.  Have you checked out the health pages (top right) which has some very good info on cysts?

Thanks for the info. I am aware that ulcerative colitis is unrelated to the cysts...but i have read that there is a slight chance of complications do to having to go in through the abdomen for the laproscopic surgery. I will ask my doctor...however i was looking for some info from anyone who has had experience with this as the nurse was not very forth coming and my doctor moved my appt. up which had me worried. First time ever with knowledge of a cyst of this size and type and don't really know much about it but read about a chance of cancer. (though i am positive that it will not be the case) - I guess i will find out soon what exactly is going on.

thanks.

Your risk of cancer is quite small (over 95% are benign).  Try and look at this positively.  Laparoscopic surgery is very easy to recover from and once that is done and over with you can move forward with your pregnancy plans.  I had ulcerative colitis for 10 years and then had the J-pouch surgery 15 years ago.  It can certainly complicate things but is not impacting your current problem.  Do find ways to relax and reduce your worry so you don't have a flare up.  Good luck with everything.

You have a doctor appointment next week.  I think you should ask your questions there.  No one can say if you have cancer or not on this forum.

Ulcerative colitis has nothing to do with your cysts so I'm sure you have a GI doc that you can refer to if you have something going on there.

The CA-125 test is not a reliable test for women of menstruating age.  It is most reliable for post menopausal women and women on chemo.  There are just too many false-positives/false-negatives if you have not hit menopause.

All the best to you.
