complex ovarian cyst

I recently started going through fertility treatment.  The HSG I had in the beginning of August came back completely normal.  There was concern because I had a very small spot of endometriosis on my cervix, which is an unususal area.  The HSG showed that my uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries were fine.

Today I went in for a routine ultrasound and bloodwork prior to doing a clomid challenge test. I have never done fertility treatment before. I received a phone call stating that there is a 39mm complex cyst on my left ovary, so I cannot go forward with the challenge until my doctor reviews the findings.

This is my question, would a complex cyst appear on an HSG test and would it have been noticed 2 months ago and how long does it take for a complex cyst to get to 39mm?

Yes, some cysts can grow quickly.  The size of the cyst they are mentioning is quite small.  With luck it will resolve itself soon and you can proceed with your fertility treatements.  We are seeing a lot of women who have or are undergoing fertility gtreatments coming down with cysts.  The increased hormones used to promote the release of more eggs does contribute to the formation of cysts in many women.  I hope this disappears very quickly and you can go on to realizing your dream.

Ovarian cysts can grow extremely quickly.

I was diagnosed with a complex cyst in late November 2004.  My ovary was normal at my annual exam the previous spring.   My first symptoms began in the late summer. At the time of diagnosis in November, the complex cyst measured some 6 cm by 5 cm.  However, by the time of my surgery - less than three weeks later - it had tripled in size from the original diagnosis.

Thus, it is possible that this mass on your ovary was not present at the time of your previous testing.  And if it  present earlier, then  it might have been small enough that it was interpreted as a normal follicular cyst.
