8 mo. not crawling

my baby is 8 months old and is not crawling yet, I am not too concerened except that his right leg and foot point outwards pretty severly.  His right leg also seems weaker.  He is sitting and likes to stand and creep somewhat, but i was told to not encourage sitting and standing untill he crawls.  His next well apt. w/ dr. isn't for another month should i get his leg looked at sooner? And any suggestions on his crawling ( or lack of )

Thanks,
   Emily

Hi Emily- My name is Karen- I understand your worries.  My son is 10 1/2 months old and is not sitting well at all.  When we sit him up, he either falls to one side, or ends up in a tripod position with his belly almost touching the ground.  He has a strange way of crawling-- he uses his arms mainly- (started this last month)..... I was told this is called army crawling.  At his 10 month checkup, his doc referred us to a Physical Therapist for an evaluation.  We went today for the first time.  They suggested several things to do that will help strengthen his lower back..... (some of these things, I was already doing)..... Re crawling-- they suggested to put our son in the "crawling position- and to suport his tummy so he gets the ideA.  I'd suggest talking to your doc- and see if they can refer your son for an evaluation-- it will ease your worries at best.  We were worried because our 3 yr old daughter was walking at our son's age.  I sometimes wonder if our son has some delays because of me having less time to play on the floor with him-- I end up spending most of my day chasing after my 3 year old !

My son crawled until 9 months!! I felt so bad because he was the only one not moving. At first he would drag his right leg. He learned to crawl correctly eventually. Then he turned a year and would not walk until past 14 months. Now I just think he is on his own schedule. The only reason why I would be concerned is if he was actually limping an entire side of his body, or if he had trouble moving his right leg. Other than that be patient. He'll do it.

they will probably splint leg or try some kind of orthotic. and maybe give u some strengthening and stretching exercises. perhaps physical therapy would be helpful. has the leg always been weaker and pointed out? i wouldnt worry too much about the not crawling. good luck

Don't feel bad.  My oldest one rolled across the room and then walked.
The youngest just walked.
Neither crawled.

They're fine now--would never know they didn't crawl.
