Make sure he has no stomach pain ..as he could have a UTI ..ask him how he feels , if he drinks a lot in the evening that could also make him go in the night ..Is he only doing it at night?
thank u all very much!!!!!
Oh yes, 12% if all kids have night time wetting until age 9 or 10. The issue is the signaling to wake and go to the bathroom. Heavy sleepers do not get enough of a signal to wake and go and they must mature into this.
This often runs in families. Ask your mom or the boy's other parents mom if either of you took a while to stay dry at night. It is often the case that a parent had difficulty with this as well.
Don't shame him for it in any way as obviously he doesn't want to be doing that. I agree with cutting back the liquids. A mandatory bathroom break right before going to sleep helps and you could try to train him to wake at a certain time of night to relieve himself. This would entail you getting up at say midnight or 1 am and gently waking him and walking him to the bathroom to go for several nights in a row so his internal clock may set for him to get up and do it himself. They make alarms but I wouldn't do this for a while.
He'll get it. This is, as lisaob1 says ----- a VERY common problem. You and he are not alone. good luck and hang in there
I mean, how close to bedtime? If it is after 7 pm, maybe you should try cutting back on drinks of water after a certain time in the evening. If you have tried all of that, please talk to his pediatrician. It could be emotional or it could be physical, but the doctor is the first place to start.
How close to bed is he given anything to drink?
