Frequent Urination

My husband recently started urinating very very frequently. I don't think he has a bladder infection because there is no pain involved and when he feels like he has to go a significant or normal amount comes out. I know with bladder infections there is pain and alot of the time when you feel like you have to go and try, either nothing comes out or only a few drops. I've posted this in the Men's Health forum as well so sorry if you've already read this. He is wondering if he should get his prostate checked? Thank you in advance for any help!

Thank you so much-i am very grateful for you wisdom on this topic. I did call and he has an app. this Friday. They said exactly what you were explaining about a urine analysis and prostate check. Although I have to say, you explained it so much better! Again, thank you-I appreciate it.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

Irritative urinary symptoms like increase in urinary frequency may suggest an underlying infection. I suggest that a urologic consult be made for a complete physical examination. A urinalysis will be able to help determine an underlying infection. A digital rectal examination (when the doctor palpates the prostate with his finger) may be able to assess if there is possible prostate involvement. A urine culture with culture of prostatic secretions may be able to rule out an underlying prostate infection.

Urinary tract infections may not necessarily present with pain. An objective analysis through a urinalysis and urine culture may easily determine an infection when present. You may keep a diary of your husband’s urinary patterns. You may include the amount of fluid intake for the day, time of urination, ambient temperature and other relevant details (e.g. possible aggravating factors like certain exercises or activities). You may discuss this with your physician.

An infection does not always present with pain or the inabilty to completly void. Also, regardless of age some men do develop an enlarged prostate.  Another possibilty is diabetes. He needs to be seen by his doctor.

Thank you very much. I did not know that. I really thought with UTI there was pain while urinating. If you don't mind me asking what is prostatitis-and what are the symptoms that you had? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to be persistent with the doctor and know what I am talking about when we go in!

Hi, I am no doctor but Ive recently been diagnosed with UTI and then prostatitis.

I just wanted to tell you that you dont necessarily experience pain when urinating nor do you necessarily have to urinate blood for it to be a UTI. In any case, I believe prostatitis and UTI's have symptoms that are very common and if your husband gets himself checked its always positive because whatever it is it seems to be just the beginning.

Hope this helps until the doctors give you their advice.
