Prescribed Nitrofurantoin for UTI

I took this medication as prescribed. 1, twice a day for 3 days. I had my last pill with dinner yesterday. But the infection is still causing a small amout of pain during urination. And I am still experiencing pains in my abdomen. Is this normal? Normally when I take medication, I feel better before I'm even done the pills. This infection came on suddenly, and got worse by the hour until I took the second pill. My urine is still quite dark, but I know this is a side effect of the medication.

I am just scared this UTI will comeback with avengence. Should I make an appointment with my doctor to double check?

I know this is an old post. But just curious if there is any particular brand of d-mannose to take before / after sex to possibly prevent an UTI?  My doctor has given me a prescription for Nitrofurantion Macro 50mg to take after sex - just wondering if the d-mannose would be a better alternative?

Update:
After a couple days, my infection was back, with a vengeance. The doctor I saw before only gave me 3 days worth of meds and the doctor I just saw gave me 7 days worth. Now I have to go back one day after I'm done my medication to send another sample to a bigger lab. So they can do a culture test. But at least I know this time it will be gone. I'm guessing that the first doctor has never had a bladder infection.

i had chronic uti for about 6 months from sex, the antibiotics did not work, it just made it worse, so i tried this simple sugar powder called d-mannose and it was a miracle, at first i took alot of it to clean out my system, now i just take it before and after sex, d-mannose works by grabbing on to bacteria that are on the bladder walls and washing it away. i also changed sex postitions to prevent the penis from rubbing bacteria on my urethra tube.
