Prostatis or Urethritis

Hello,

I have had symptoms for over a month now.  Low back pain, muscle aches, urgency to urinate and dribbling after urination, burning sensation while ejaculating and urinating, bad smelling odor in urine, sometimes having to push the urine out and small amount of blood in the urine.  I went to a urologist and he said that something was going on...almost hinting at an STD. After a full inspection he said it was a small case of urethritis  My girlfriend and another partner who I have had unprotected sex with have both gone to the gyno within the past two months and both have negative results.  I have been taking adderall for quite some time and have always felt abnormal side effects specifically with urinating and lower back pain.  I spoke to my father and he said that he had prostatitis resulting from adderall.  I then looked up prostatits and saw that most of my symptoms related to this condition.

My question is, is it possible for the Adderall to cause a case of prostatitis and was it possible for the urethritis to either be caused by the prostatitis or mistaken for it?

I am 22, and I have noticed that whenever I take the drug there are abnormal side effects including difficulty urinating.  My doctor has hinted at an STD but the bizarre thing is I have no discharge.  Also is it possible for my urethritis to be caused from excessive masterbation and friction during sex?

Hi,

How old are you? If you are under 50 years old, it would be pretty unlikely for you to have a prostate problem. The urethra has a portion that runs along the prostate, and hence there would indeed be similarities with the symptoms.

Symptoms you have described may be explained by infection indeed. The Adderall may also have some side effects, though problems with voiding urine are not common (it would be more common to have changes in libido and impotence). If you notice a pattern though since you started the drug, it may indeed be possible. A discussion with your doctor regarding changing your medications may be in order.
