Prostatitis and fever for almost 6 weeks now

Hi,

I went in to see my doc. after experiencing low grade fevers (almost 6 weeks now). The fever comes once or twice a week. Just recently I went for a CT scan and it was revealed that my prostate was slightly enlarged. My doc. did a PSA test and the value came out to be 4.5. My blood work has been fairly consistent except the last time I got it done the WBC were elevated to 11.5 and CRP/ESR has been high. My CRP trend has been 96, 16, 53 and 83.

Blood work results
First test     Second test      Third test
WBC     9.3                8.2                   11.5

My doc. suggests it could be chronic prostatitis and has prescribed antibiotics. I am also going to see a Urologist. I am really worried about it being some sort of a cancer either prostate or leukemia. Please advise.

Thanks.

Hey did the antibiotic helped you. I have similar symptoms since 3 years. Extreme fatigue and weakness. In the beginning I also had low grade fever. Antibiotics didn't help for me. Please reply. Thanks.

The Urologist put me on Levoquin for 6 weeks. I just started the course two days ago and had the fever this weekend. I am assuming the drug will take some time to kick in so I'll have to wait and see how I feel later next week.

After six weeks I have to go for the PSA test again. I am also seeing a Rheumatologist this week.

Thanks.

Hi,

Considering your age , the PSA values and your investigations the likelihood that this is chronic prostatitis are more.

You should follow up with your doctor gularly and you might also need to continue the antibiotic medications for a longer time than normal.

Let us know what the urologist advises.

Keep us posted about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.
