Redness in glans and opening to urethra

I've been having this redness on my glans and tip of the urethra for over 4 weeks now. It comes and goes. Sometimes it will be red at night and fine in the morning. Sometimes it lasts a little longer, like a day or two then go back to normal. Any idea what this could be?

I took Levofloxacin, 3 Rocephin shots, and am now taking Omnicef for 10 days. Also had unprotected oral sex and protected intercourse about 37 days ago which I think I noticed the redness before I even began those antibiotics. Just wanted to give a little background for the best possible answer.

Thanks

Sorry for the delay in replying - had not computer access for a week.

Also sorry to hear that you are still having your problems.  I trust you have taken my advice in my previous reply.

As you are still having a problem, I would suggest you see your doctor so that he can give you a thorough examination and take a swab test so that you can be treated with the right type of medication.

Make sure when you wash, that you do not use any soaps. Wash your hands after using the toilet and before touching your penis so that you do not pass any germs from your hands.  Also only use non-biological washing detergents.

Hope you get sorted out soon.

i am now going into week 11 and the symptoms have not gone away. i still find it red on glans and it seems that my shaft and glans are swollen a lot of the time along with tingling and kind of a pinching feeling. not to mention, it feels like sandpaper in my boxers occasionally when it rubs on the tip of the penis. its extremely annoying and need to find out what this is. i notice it comes and goes for the tingling and pinching feeling. sometimes it goes away for a week or two then comes back for a few days.

Antibiotics can cause fungal problems, because they not only get rid of the bad bacteria, but also the good bacteria which controls fungal growth.

Antibiotics are not the correct medication for fungal problems.  You need a medication, either oral or cream that treats fungal infections.

Don't use soaps or shower gels, wear cotton underwear and don't wear tight trousers.

I suggest you go back to your doctor for a swab to be taken to identify the cause of the problem, or try an antifungal cream that your pharmacist can recommend for you.

Don't have unprotected sex.

Best wishes.

What if I noticed these symptoms before the start of the antibiotics? Any clue what it could be then? This thing is really intermittent. It doesn't stay very long it seems. Sometimes only a few hours. Is there an STD that fits that profile?

Thanks.

You may have a fungal infection, which is quite common when taking antibiotics.

See your doctor so that you can be prescribed with the correct medication.

Best wishes.
