Testical Pain

Ive had some pain in my left testicle in the epididymis.  A hospital diagnosed me with epedidymitus about 2 years ago, gave me anti-biotics, and it cleared up.  Since then it has reoccurred 4 or 5 times.  Ive been seeing a Urologist about it and he gave me an ultra sound and anti-biotics as well.  However this time 2 anti biotics haven't worked and i still have the pain.  Its getting a little stronger as well sometimes giving me a sharp pain for 20 or 30 seconds maybe once a day where i used to have to touch it to feel the pain.  My girlfriend and i do not cheat on each other and have both been recently tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia both of which came back negative.  Occasionally i feel a mild pain in the right testicle when i touch it but i dont know if thats in my head.  Can anyone give me some advice?

Hi, I used to have a simmilar problem. At about the age of 29 I was first diagnosed of having prostatitis. I had this pain sensation in the scrotum and rectal area. After I developed a kidney infection, I was treated with Cipro antibiotics. The infection cleared only to develop epiditimytis a few weeks later. Further infestigation was done, and after several cystoscopies it was decided to proceed with a transurethral resection of the prostate as well as resection of the bladder neck. This was determined due to the fact that some outlet obstruction was found.
For about a six month period things seemed great, but than I ended up with another kidney infection with epiditimytis on both sides. I ended up in hospital for about a week and was on intraviness antibiotics.
From about 1996 till about 2000, I used to hospitalized abut every 3 to 4 months with either a kidney infection with or without either epiditimytis or orchitis.
In 1999 after having done some of my own research, I came accross an artical that mentioned surgery simmilar to a vasectomy for males who had their prostate removed. The reason for this was to prevent infections to spread to the testes. Based on this I underwent a vasectomy since my wife and I had four children and thought it best not to have any more. We also thought that by having a vasectomy it would bring a welcomed end to infections in to the testes. After my vasectomy I developed a hematoma and this was surgically removed. To make a long story short. The left side of the scrotum had a small ulcer that never closed after surgery and in 2000 I underwent emergency surgery to remove my left testicle as it had become infected with Strap.

Infections in the epiditimis or testicles can be difficult to get under control. I think that in your case it would be of benefit for you to be on a longer term of low dose antibiotics. I would not go past a period of about 6 months. Antibiotics do a lot of harm to the digestic tract and are the cause of may yeast infections.

Should you after that period still end up with epiditimyits, it would be adviseable to have further infestigation done.

In my case it was discovered in 1996 that I had a neurogenic bladder. This means that I have impaired control over the muscles and sphincters of my bladder. Deu to that I could not completely empty my bladder withouth the use of a catheter.

In 2000 I started intermittant catherization, where I would use a catheter at least once a day. By doing so I made sure that I emptied my bladder just before going to bed. Since then I have had a drastic decrease in the infections that I have had. I also have had any more infections in my remaining right testicle. I stilll have had the occoasional UTI. and in March of this year my first kidney infection since 2003.

Prostititis, epiditimytis, oand orchitis can be difficult to control. If you continue to have problems with this after having been on a longer course of antibiotics, further investigation should be done to pinpoint the problem.

Good Luck and God bless,

Ronald

Hi,
How are you? Infection or inflammation of the epididymis, which is a tubular structure attached to the upper posterior part of each testicle,  and results in scrotal Causes for this inflammation could be infections with E.coli or Pseudomonas, STD,VUR, duplication of the ureter, prostatitis, post prostatectomy, BPH, ectopic ureter.

In your case recurrent epididymitis could occur due to inadequate treatment of previous infection or behcet's syndrome or infection with mycobacterium tuberculosis or chronic prostatitis.
I would suggest that you get a full work up done for STD, Tb, and prostrate examination.
Treatment would depend upon the particuclar cause.
Feel free to write to me for further queries or suggestions.
Best.
