blood and sugar in urine?

On the 26th March 2008 I had a water infection with burning when urinating and frequent urination I was treated with antibiotics cipro trimethoprim and cipro now then infection has gone but there it still blood in my urine. I went the other day to check if it was still present and they said yes and also there is sugar in it, what could this mean?? I have discomfort in my lower abdomen and its painful when I walk. I am being referred to urology but havent been feeling myself for a while now I have lost over 2 stone and have no appetite what so ever!! I was wandering if I ask my doctor to do a test for ovarian cancer if he would do it??

any replies appreciated

I've been to the doctors this morning, and said I think I might have diabetes and could I have a blood test to check it. He said I had 2 blood tests taken in either Feb or March and my glucose leve was fine on one it was 4.5 and on the other it was 4.9 so he is happy with them :-S

I am not sure what kind of tests they do on a routine blood panel.  The last one that I had did check for glucose.  It may have shown up but there may be more extensive tests to screen for diabetes and pre-diabetes.  I wish you the best.  Don't forget to let me know how you are.

Ok well good luck with your next test keep me posted. Thanks a lot for your reply I will keep you posted. Would it of showed up on a blood test if I had diabetes? because I had a blood test in January. But then again I only found out there was sugar in my urine on Friday.

Hang in there.  Diabetes is highly treatable.  With diet, exercise and the proper meds you will be fine.  I just got the report of microscopic blood yesterday afternoon. I called the on-call physician for my doc and he gave me antibiotics.  Said it could be a low grade infection.  I need to finish the antibiotics and then get tested again.  Also, I run about 3 miles a day and I guess all the activity could cause the microscopic blood in my urine also.  I am really scared but I am trying to be normal because I have to wait a few weeks to finish the antibiotics and get tested again.  Good luck with everything.  Let me know how you are.  I will pray for you.  I think whatever it is, you will be able to treat it and live normally!
