blood in urince & seman

I noticed a month ago when I ejaculate that there were brown looking clots in my seman.  I did not think anything of it cause a few years ago same thing happened and it cleared up.  Well, about a week ago, when urinating, toward the end of urinating I noticed blood come out, so I became extemely worreid, so I contacted my doctor.  When I went he took urine sample.  (its been a week since the doctors office visit)  The day after the doctors visit, my left testicle began to become sore along with my left lower abdomen just above the base of my penis, so I called the doctor on call and he said to apply heat and take aleve and see how it felt in the moring.  In the middle of the night I had an ejaculate and it was red.   That moring my doctor called and I told him about how my left testicle was sore, but had gotten better, and also how my ejaculate that night was red in the seman.  He said based on the soreness where it was, and the ejaculate and he thought it to be maybe in the seminal vesicles.  He prescribed me Cipro.  I am currently taking that prescription and have about 5 500mg pills left.  I have not heard about the test results, they said it may take a week or so, I have not been in any pain since the soreness of my left testicle, is what I have a infection or should I wait to see what the urine test shows? I sometimes see sign of brown in my urine, but not always

I finished a week of cipro that my doctor gave me.  for a span of almost week did not see anything in urine, but in one ejaculate i had it was not bright red it was a dark kind of blood if that makes sense.  I finished my weeks work of cipro on the saturday aug 30, and just yesterday I noticed a smidge of brown in urine.  I called my doctor and today he gave me a 14 day prescreption if levaquin and he said to keep him posted and that after that presc. if still seeing signs, he would refer to urologist.  I have not had any pain since the last time, but just wish what it is would go away.  it is stressful.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

It is possible that you have prostatitis. The symptoms you have described and the presence of blood in the urine and the semen could indicate a prostate problem.
The infective organisms may be located only within the prostate and come into the urethra during ejaculation. The irritation within the prostate would cause irritability of the detrusor muscle of the bladder causing urgency even on slight filling of bladder. Enlargement of the prostate gland can also affect the stream adversely and can cause referred pain in the testes and penis..

You may need to have another urinalysis done, preferably from a sample collected just after ejaculation. A prostate fluid analysis can also be done. This is to identify the organism causing the infection and may be followed by a culture sensitivity test to determine which antibiotic the organism is sensitive to. A prostate ultrasound (done rectally) will give an idea of the state of the gland and whether it is enlarged.

Also have yourself tested for chlamydia and mycoplasma (STDs) as these are two infections that can cause symptoms of UTI and prostatitis but are not detected on routine urinalysis or culture.

Ensure that you keep your fluid intake over 2000 ml per day and avoid prostate irritants, such as caffeine, alcohol, citrus fruits, and spicy foods. Also avoid sitting for long periods of time or on surfaces that are not well padded.

If you do indulge in intercourse during the period of treatment, ensure that you practise safe sex (condoms) so as to not infect your partner.

Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
