I have a suprapubic cath. I got the same infection (e-coli) in the bladder in April of 09.
Since I have a spinal cord injury I don't feel like others do. So the infection was kidney bound when I saw blood.
I have been on 4-5 different antibiotics since April and the specialist has me on an antibiotic now that I take EVERY night.
Kinda like a prevenative thing. Anyhow, I still have the e-coli  but it is not causing as many problems now as it did 6 months ago.
It may not work for everyone, but it did for me!

If you have antibiotics then there is nothing to worry about. Most UTIs are caused by ecoli as it lives in the digestive tract so is able to get into the urethra from the anus.

You wont die from it. it would only get serious if you left it for weeks and it turned into a kidney infection, and then you may have to go to hospital, but if you have treatment then it should clear up when you have finished the treatment. keep up your fluids and drink cranberry juice...it helps prevent the bacteria sticking to the cells in the bladder.
