Boredom affecting diet

My husband and I are both unemployed right now and are finding that we are quite bored and keep leading each other into temptation.  Any ideas to help?

Volunteer for something - it's the Obama era! Get involved and stay busy - then you won't want to eat. There will be more important things to think about.

Maybe you'll even find a job through volunteering, or meet a contact who can refer you to an employer. Just a suggestion. Good luck to you!

I can relate, as I have reduced to part time.  There are days when I'm not up to leaving my apartment, and being at home where food is always accessible does make it hard.

What I try to do is keep a schedule, instead of leaving all of my time as unstructured.  I get up at the same time, make/eat breakfast, I drive my partner to work, I come back and exercise, get cleaned up...(I'll stop before I put you to sleep.)

Anyway, imposing a schedule can help with that bored feeling, and with the motivation issues.

I can really relate to your hubby being a "partner in crime,"  I also get led into temptation, esp. on the weekend.  We're avoiding take out and restaurants, but I end up cooking in too large batches, and making dishes that too closely resemble comfort food!  Also, cooking means I get those chances to "taste" everything...Plus, we aren't going out to the movies or shopping due to both budget and health.

Sometimes, I paint my nails just so I won't be able to use my hands to cook/eat!

Hopefully, you and hubby can come up with a plan you can stick to everyday, and encourage each other instead of tempting each other.  Are you guys competitive?  If so, maybe you could work that in, assign points for working out and other household stuff.

Hang in there.  You can always hang out on MedHelp when you're bored/fighting temptation, another tactic of mine...

Hey Bud, I think that you may have answered your own question.  I take it that you're spending alot of time together? Le't's see, any ideas? I know, how about sex? LOL Sorry, but I could not resist. But it will help you burn calories. I'm here with my hubby most of the time since he retired. So what else is there to do on a cold, snowy day?  I have also picked up a few cook books to try something new. Believe it or not, I picked one up for diabetics, just figured it would be healthier for me. I put my hubby in charge of cutting up the veggies. LOL. I hate cutting up all those littler buggers. I must admitt, I do get a little bored at times and sometimes a little down. And since your a Colin fan like myself, do what I do. I have watched "what a girl wants and "Bridget Jones Diary" about 15 times already. It's just a feel good movie.   Oh, in case you're wondering, my hubby retired when he was 48. Didn't want ya to think I was married to some 90 yr. old.LOL.

I would say take up a hobby or something. Whenever you feel bored, don't go into the kitchen! Once you go in not really wanting anything, you come out eating something. The Kitchen can be an evil room when you're bored. =D

But take up maybe a stroll around the block, walk to downtown (If it's close enough), if you have any exercise equipment try a quick workout. Or, go to a park or something. Try to find a way to do something that interests you, but keeps you away from your temptations. Good luck!!
