Sunday Weigh In

Well, I'm a bit late today, but it's time for another round of weigh ins.............

I, personally, hate to admit that I'm up by 2 lbs because I made too many trips the candy basket in the secretary's office.  Actually, most of the time, I was there on business -- just didn't resist the candy (particularly peppermint candy canes).  I've actually asked her to stop bringing in all the candy because none of us need it -- especially her (5' tall and at least 300+ lbs), but she continues to bring it anyway -- I think to get people to visit her office to chat.

In spite of that, it's not fair of me to blame her.............*I* just need to resist or conduct more of my business via phone, rather than in person.

How did you guys do??  Hope you did better than me............

wow Elaine - that's really impressive that you have lost so much weight already!

if you have been stuck at the same weight for a couple of months after losing so much it's probably just your body having a little protest at all the change and wanting to slow the process up a little. It's probably just a blip and I'm sure the pounds will start shifting again in no time. Have you tried varying your regime, whatever you're doing has obviously brought great results so far but maybe trying something different, new type of exercise or some new elements in your diet might freshen things up for you.

It's weird how the mirror plays tricks with us all the time (well it certainly does with me!), you might not have seen yourself as fat before because it just wasn't what you were focussing on, (maybe that's how you got so big in the first place), now you're focussing on it, you can see the extra pounds and if you feel bad about yourself you will see an unattractive reflection.  that's how it goes. Without a doubt having lost so much you will be looking heaps better than you did and you will really start to see the difference as you progress even further. I just wanted to send you some more words of encouragement because you still sounded quite down. hey, if it was easy everyone would be doing it!

wishing you all the very best for this week, stay warm.

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragment, i think i was in a lets beat elaine up moment this morning, I know after losing over 150 lbs that it is worth it, i would never want to go back to how i was, but sometimes it feels like quiting would be the easier choice, but for those that know me quitting is not an option, and i never do anything the easy way, just wishing i could get the scales to move the right way,

As for being a fat its wierd, i look in the mirror and see a really fat person, but when i was 150 lbs heavier i never saw myself as fat, so i dont know what that is about,
Well done to every one else,

Elaine - you are being way too hard on yourself.  You are not a "fat greedy pig" and yes, it's worth it, because you are a wonderful person and that makes you worth the hard work.  I ate too much over Christmas at times also, but I've let it go and am getting back on track -- I'm even managing to stay away from the candy basket in the secretary's office............you need to forgive yourself and start again.  You don't call me a fat greedy pig when I eat things I shouldn't, so please -- be as nice and encouraging to yourself as you are to me and everyone else.

yallolorry --- since I, too, have the thyroid issue, I find it easier to set smaller goals for myself -- like 5 pounds over a month or even 1 pound for this week, then when/if I get there, I feel like I really accomplished something and I can reset my goal again for the next week. We all figure out our little strategies that work for us.

Yeah for jenkaye21 ------ love it.......

Overall I lost a pound or two.  (I weigh myself obsessively, several times a day... I know! know!  it's not good)

I am coming in at 164 or 163.5.  Hope to never see 165 and up again! = )

I hear you Barb! thanks for the word of caution. I promise I'm not going to force anything and appreciate my thyroid condition might limit what I can achieve.. Am having to come to terms with a lot of physical limitations at the moment.  It helps to have a goal though, I'll just see how I get on...

Elaine, I put on a mountain of weight over christmas, I'm not sure how much but definately a lot more than 3lb! Probably just about everyone here indulged a bit over the festive season, hey it's mid winter and we are all human! Sending you a hug and encouragement for the week ahead.

Yes, it's all worth it because your worth it. I don't like the way I look either but it's better this way than the other. I pigged out at Christmas too. Everybody did. How can you not indulge at Christmas a little? Please don't beat yourself up over all of it. You'll get through this. You can do it. You are doing it. Your here and open and honest and it is all worth it. Every time you come across a hurdle and make it over, it increases your chances of doing it again and again. You'll see.

yallolory --- 11 lbs is possible for the two months, just make sure you don't drop your calories too much.  Too often people think that all they have to do is cut out the calories, and of course, we do need to limit the number of calories we take in every day, but if you cut out too many calories, your body will go into "starvation mode" and will hold onto fat because it thinks there's not going to be enough food.

AND because you have thyroid issues, make sure your levels are optimal before attempting weight loss of that magnitude or you might set yourself up for disappointment.  I did that once --- it's not fun..

thanks Barb!! this thread is a lovely idea.

good luck everyone for the week ahead.

DMarie, 5 lbs a month sounds totally realistic and achievable - sending you every positive vibe in the world to achieve your goal!!!!

I am determined to drop some weight this week, am sick of looking 6 months pregnant! My goal is to drop 11 lbs a month in Feb and March to get back to my target weight and shape. I hope that's not being too ambitious, I won't be heartbroken if I'm a few pounds short but hope I can get there.

this week no sweets or cakes for me!!

I lost 1.4lbs last week so I am very happy since I didn't get to work out as much as I would like. I had a lot going on and worked late hours three nights last week. This weekend I didn't stick to the diet like I should since we had so much going on with sick family members so to get on the scale this morning and that it went down 1.4lbs I was happy!!

Wow, we had a good showing this week.  So happy to see the participation.

Thanks tigerlilly for your encouraging words.  You are right, we do live in a world of excesses these days and it's up to me to take control of what I do.

Trudie - how can we help you?  Are you still battling your health issues?

ilovemyson -- we don't count anybody out -- we just encourage you to keep moving forward.  It's not unusual to gain just before or during your period.  Hopefully, you will be able to drop that off this week and maybe even more, if you stick with your good eating and exercise.

yallolorry -- a pound lost is a pound lost, so don't scoff at it.  Too bad about the bag of sweets - maybe it would be better just to not have them around if you can't resist.  I know we all hate to throw things away, but I've been doing that -- if I can't resist something, I throw it away, so I HAVE to resist. But even so, you lost a pound so again -- don't let one setback stop you; keep moving forward.

DMarie919 -- Welcome to our group.  I don't know much about your situation, but 22 pounds in just over 4 months, can be accomplished if you are diligent.  Just make sure you don't try to lose too much too fast -- that's not good for you.  We figure that 1-2 pound loss/week is safest.  Have you calculated the necessary calories you need each day?  Are you keeping a food diary?  That's one of the best ways I know to lose weight, as you can record everything you eat, checking the calories and making sure that you aren't eating too many sweets/simple carbs or too much fat, etc.  Exercise is also essential, so if you have a plan in place, you should be good to go.  Hope you'll stay with us and let us share your successes and set backs........

Hello ladies....mind if I join your group?  I am trying to lose another 22lbs for before my anniversary at the end of May...LOL!  I know that's pretty unrealistic but actually it's only 5 lbs a month... My name is Dana and I have battled weight loss most of my life...and finding it is going to always be a struggle so I am just trying to work really hard at it and see what happens.  I am also trying to conceive so I am hoping losing weight will help with that as well.
My current weight is 182.5....would like to reach 160!

I've dropped a pound! Down from 156 last Monday to 155 today. Not much progress towards my goal yet but at least I haven't gone up this week, for once!

have been fighting sugar cravings all week and mostly successful except for when confronted with a big bag of sweets that had been sitting in my car since the big drive we did at Christmas: I just scoffed the lot in one fell swoop because they were there!

have also had a chest infection on top of my hypothyroid so feeling very poorly and tired most of this week. maybe I will be able to eat a bit less in general next week as hopefully I won't be craving extra calories to give me energy, now I seem to be getting a bit better again.

anyway, apart from the sweets and an indulgent breakfast with my lovely husband today, with eggs and hollandaise sauce, I have been eating healthy stuff all week.

hopefully next Sunday I will have a bigger drop to report. I wanna be slim again!!!!

thanks Barb for inviting me to join in this thread, it's so nice to have a group to compare notes with and encourage each other.

Nope not better than you but the same. I'm up 2 pounds. After my Sunday weigh in last week I went out for Chinese and ice cream for my 7th anniversary and it was worth every minute. I think I would have been OK with that but the very next day I pigged out (on healthy food) after dinner. I think that was the nail in the coffin for this weeks weigh in. I'm coming down quickly and just got my period so I should be back to normal by next Sunday.

Barb135, I don't think it's wrong to suggest to people to do the right thing. We live in times of excess and no one wants to do anything about it. If you say something and are ignored then it is up to you and it sounds like you have a good plan. Phone calls instead of personal visits. Good idea. If she wants you to come around she can put the candy away.
