Severe stomach pains almost 1 year after cesarian

11 months ago I gave birth to my son by C-section after 36+ hours of labor.  During my cesarian, the epidural wore off and I began to feel everything.  I began screaming to my boyfriend and the nurse beside me.  I was ignored and they continued to stitch me up until I told them I was going to jump off the table.  Then the anestegiologist put more medicine in the IV.  I felt awful and just slept the entire day not even knowing my son was in the NICU with breathing problems from magnesium toxicty (medicine they gave me to keep my blood pressure down but got into his system as well and he couldn't stay awake).  I was induced on Thursday afternoon because of my blood pressure but was still not given a cesarian until saturday morning.  I began asking for a cesarian when I was not dilating but they continued to make me wait.  When I went home 4 days later, my son had to stay.  I had him on a saturday, went home on weds, he came home on the following monday, that tuesday morning I was in the ER with a fever of 106 and severe abdominal pains that i could not walk kor be touched.  They removed my staples because  they were supposed to be taken out later that day.   After a week of being in the hospital on IV antibiotics and still running a fever, they finally decided to do an X-ray on my stomach.  The X-Ray showed I had fluid collecting on the right side of my incision.  They took me in for surgery and opened up the right side and cleaned it out.  They did not stitch it back up, they left it open and packed the area so any infection would continue to drain out.  This was on the saturday, exactly two weeks after giving birth.  They came in and changed the packing three times a day.  I was sent home with instructions for a wound vac that home health care nurses would place on.  This went fine, when it was time for them to come back out and change the wound vac, it was very painful.  I began to run a fever the next day and was told to go to the ER.  They decided I was okay and gave me antibiotics for a upper respiratory infection.  I was still on the antibiotics from the hospital also.  I went in for a routine appointment to check the progress of the wound vac.  I still had a fever.  They kept me for testing.  I asked them to remove the wound vac because my body may be rejecting it.  They waited.  The fever did not go down after being on IV antibiotics again.  They removed the wound vac. I had to stay in the hospital on antibiotics until I went 24 hours without a fever.  They never decided why I was still running a fever.  The Sunday before Thanksgiving I was finally able to go home and be with my baby.  The wound vac was not put back in some home health care and my mom kept my bandages changed.  Green fluid drained until It completely closed up.  When my son was about 3 months, I went to the ER for severe abdominal pain on my entire right side.  It was painful and hurt to the touch.  I could barely walk.  It felt as if my intestines were inflammed.  They couldnt fine anything wrong and gave me a rgimen of medicine to try for a couple of days to see if it would help.  It did help.  The pains began to happen another 2 months later.  I took the medicine, it helped a little.  Now the pain is back and much worse.  The medicine is not helping.  I feel like I am constipated and have gas but using the restroom or passing gas is not helping.  I can barely get out of bed, I am so uncomfortable.  I also start gasping for air our of nowhere.  I don't know if it is from the pain or something else.  I've recently had an abdominal X-ray but they say they don't see anything.  Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Sounds like GI cocktail of meds.  Bactrim is a pretty heavy antibiotic; shame you can't tolerate it.  If the pain was responding to these meds I would be apt to say you are dealing with GI issues secondary to this Hyster.  You've definitely been through alot, i.e. infection, wound vacs, pain.

Well......in rereading your post I didn't see any mention of a regular physician and/or a OB/GYN Specialist.  You mentioned ER visits though.

Get established with a regular physician and get this situation sorted asap.

All the best dear.

Keep us posted.

I was given sucralfate, metoclopram, and omeprazole. Bactrim as an antibiotic but I found out I am allergic to it and cannot take it.  Thanks for your response, I am looking for a new gyno. I will make sure to ask for one of these different procedures.

Shan,  I'm so sorry you've had to go through this horrific ordeal.

The medical staff may have followed all usual protocols in your case - sometimes,  people just react very differently to treatments and mediations than expected.  (Like,  you can see "may cause drowsiness or excitability" on a drug label - people really can respond unpredictably to medications and treatments).

But I do think at this point you might want to seek out another medical facility for a second opinion on what is causing all this pain.

I am curious what medication they gave you when your son was 3 months old and you had severe abdominal pain - and it worked temporarily.  Do you remember the name of that medication?

Not sure what happened here.....this could be a number of things and I really can't speculate what exactly this is.

What medication were you taking for the pain?

No CT or US of your abdomen were ever done?

Have they ever mentioned anything about doing a Laparoscopic procedure to visually check inside your abdomen?

You need more than just a plain abdominal x-ray for sure.
