I need a good support group

Its hard goin this alone. Im soon going to be weening from klonapin from 2mg a day at twice a day for a lot of years. I have this beer drinking addiction going on at the same time , and that is usually after I get off work at midnight, its kind of like a wherewolf thing, I only indulge at night and hate myself the next day. Both these addictions escalated after I went off on my boss threw my badge and keys at him and walked out after 8 yrs from the best job I ever had and that was in 2004, My benzos increased over time and so did my drinking. I had previously lived in key west and in my mind I wanted to be there so I started listening to jimmy buffett , started drinking corona and escaped reality of the life in the midwest. Those days are gone now and I have gotten older but the drugs and the beer are still there.

you are addicted to benzo but as you stated your not getting the buzz you once did.  So you are reaching for the alchol to increass the effect and catch a buzz.  its kinda like trading one off for the other.  not a good idea.  the thing is by drinking you are still using a substance to escape reality.  i know i do the same thing.....i no what you are going through as i am just starting to reach out as you are.  i am still using but i have spent the last week talking to doctors and theripist and weighing out my options as what would be best.  i have an appointment with a detox docotor next week.  that is my next step. hopefully within the next two weeks i will not be using any more with the help of medical support.

you may not be addicted to the beer but you are still using it as a crutch...so to answer your question....its not a good idea to have the drink....i know how hard it could be

It seems like a concrete plan is needed here.

Could you work out the minimum amount of tabs you could take a day and at certain times?

Years ago the doctor prescribed Valium which he gave me for years, coming off them was hell on this earth. He cut the dose and and one point to quickly, he said I was in danger of a fit and then went more slowly.

Sway~   That was an excellent observation...

Swagger~  You seem to have some anger issues. When you begin your tapering and get to those AA meetings, you may feel better.  Your last post sounded really angry...

Good luck~

you are looking outside yourself and examining other's motives. impossible to do especially online. your motives are what you should be examining. you say that you kids turned away from you because of beer. is that what you trully believe? or are you using alcohol to build a barrier around yourself? the only way to do this thing is honestly. after years of using any drug, honesty gets like an onion, with many layers. it's time for you to start peeling.
there are no rules here that say people must respond to your post. i feel fortunate when they do. i won't coddle you. you spend way too much time being offended by others instead of looking inside yourself. when you are ready for some honest hard work, you will find some relief. i say this because i want you to heal and i don't mean any harm. sometimes people are too soft. help can come from some unlikely places, so keep your mind as open as possible.
   sincerely, your friend, sway

Hey Swagger, if you still have your laptop. I don't hang on the forum, I like to visit, it has learned me much. Didn't know addiction could be so interesting and a place to meet people! It's great to find other's with such unique problems, that otherwise I wouldn't find. I don't always have access, and stuff just happens. You mentioned earlier about when the pills get so small how to continue breaking them accurately into smaller pieces. Usually by the pick up counter at the drug store, they sell pill cutters, just for that purpose, there about 4 bucks and I use the tool all the time, it's very helpful, what with being ham handed. Glad you found us, patience ain't easy, hang in here and you'll find it a valuable resource!
