Burning Anxiety

Does anyone know what would cause a burning sensation throughout my whole body. It's like all of the nerve endings in my body are inflamed. I am taking lexapro and zanax currently, but this burning has been getting progressively worse over the last 2 years, and I have been on several different medications and the burning is always there. I was told that it sounds like anxiety?? It is so strong that it constantly wakes me up during the night, and I sweat a lot also. I burn all of the time. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I'm not sure I would be totally convinced with your PCP's explanation. Anxiety (and psych meds can definitely cause this symptom), but because of the severity and duration of the burning sensation, I would keep looking for a physiological cause until other things (like an inflammatory or auto-immune disease) have been ruled out. I know people with fibromyalgia often report body-wide burning sensations. I'm not sure what kind of insurance coverage you have, but if you can afford it, a consultation with a rheumatologist might be a good idea. And if that doesn't turn up anything, a consultation with a neurologist may be helpful. If everything checks out okay, it is probably time to see a psychiatrist for your anxiety instead of your PCP. They would have a much better understanding of psychotropic drugs and their side-effects.

Hope everything works out for you..

Yea I know what Flagyl is usually used for.
Its also used in "Cystic forms" of lyme disease.

Its funny, I told my crappy Nurse practitioner about the Systomatic Yeast infection thing when It all first started happening........she treated me like a fool.

So......I dumped her, I dont trust any medical proffesional that just blames everything on a mental disorder........exspecially when it comes from nowhere

Jake, flagyl is used for yeast infections.  If you had systemic candida, it would cause all those symptoms.  Usually it comes back because flagyl destroys the good intestinal bacteria that prevents candida from coming back, so it usually starts a pattern of worsening problems.  But if it didn't, that may be why it helped.

Thanks to all for your responses. I have seen my 'PCP' and explained all to him. He ran blood tests and told me that all looks fine. I was told that it is anxiety?? My 'PCP' told me that 'Phych', meds can do this, but he doesn't have the answer why?? As far as what can be done for relief, he told me to try and cut back on the zanax?? This is really driving me crazy.

Thats what I was getting BEFORE any meds.
So I ruled out side effects with myself.
Then I started to get blurred vision, chest pains, tingle feeling, numbness, trembling, insomnia, other stuff
Long story short.
Got on meds, helped SLIGHTLY "Klonopin and prozac, Klonopin helped, prozac did nothing"
but what really made me feel better was when I had a tooth problem, my wife had Flagyl enough for 2 days, I started taking that, to hold me over until I made it to the Docs, and strangely enough......everything started going away, even the mental stuff.
Told the Doc about it, and at the time we were thinking "Placebo" effect, but he prescribed Flagyl and Pennacillan, now that I think about it, it couldnt have been a placebo effect because in order for a placebo effect to occur, the user needs to think its going to "Clear" up those perticular problems.

I was just taking it for my tooth.
Then I started looking into Lyme disease "Suggested by many people to me" and it makes allot of sence"
Burning sensations is a big indicator, and rashes only occur 30 % of the time.

Get a new doc, and asked for your blood to be checked for EVERYTHING.
Try to find a lyme Doc, because It is a hard one to catch.

I get a burning sensation when i am having a panic attack but it is not always there.  My anxiety causes a lot of physical problems when it is not under control.  It seems 2 years is a long time to deal with that on a regular basis.

Did you a the doctors check you out?  I think i would.

The burning sensation may very well be caused by anxiety; however, if the sensation has lasted 2 years despite being on medication you should consult with your doctor to rule out physiological causes (like a thyroid problem). I've seen some reports of people having heat sensations as a side-effect of antidepressants... but this typically goes away after a few weeks of being on the meds. I know that lexapro makes me sweet a lot, and I do get burning / tingling when I'm having a panic attack. But it is not constant. Have you brought this up to your dr.?
