Atypical Cells in cyst fluid

Atypical Cells in cyst fluid

I recently had a cyst aspirated that produced a yellow clear fluid and the lump was instantly gone.  I had a normal mammogram 2 months before with no significant changes from the previous year.   The new doctor reported scattered atypical cells in the fluid pathology and wants to do a open biopsy.  I consulted a breast specialist who is no longer in my area by telephone and he suggested that I thank the doctor but wait and have another mammogram at 6 months and watch for any changes.   What to do?
Is the new doctor in overdrive or will I be safe enough waiting for another 4 mths if I have no mass.

Dear Minna1202, You have the two differing opinions neither of which are wrong, the decision is for you to make and some of that is based on your comfort level in waiting.  Another option for you is to have your case reviewed by another physician who would want to review the pathology slides, all reports, mammograms and do a complete health history and physical exam.
