Biopsy is negative how to cure the bleeding?

Finally, the MRI showed a lump in my wife's breast (the mamogram (mammogram) & Ultrasound were negative) and she had biopsy done last Thursday. Thanks God it came out negative. What should she do now to cure the breast bleeding (it was very small amount and about once a month)

Thanks

Dear Hai, To cure the bleeding the cause of the bleeding needs to be determined and treated.  The doctor would try to determine what the cause of the bleeding is. There could be various causes of bleeding such as an intraductal papilloma (a wartlike growth on the lining of the duct, which erodes and bleeds, creating a bloody discharge).  Or intraductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) a precancer that clogs up the duct.  Cancer could be another cause but they are rarely the cause of discharge.

Some methods that can be used to check the duct are ductal lavage or a ductogram.  Ductal lavage is a procedure in which the duct is rinsed with fluid and the cells obtained are sent for analysis.  A ductogram is where the radiologist takes a very fine plastic catheter and, with a magnifying glass, threads it into the duct, squirts dye into it, and takes a picture.  It provides a "map" for the surgeon who may do a biopsy of the duct in question and may also show the source of the bleeding.
