Chemo vs Hormone Therapy

Chemo vs Hormone Therapy

I am 61.  I had a mastectomy on 4/29/09.  There were two tumors - they were IDC about .7 cm and well defined. The lymph nodes were clear.  The pathology report came back with the estrogen and progesterone receptors at 93% and 95% respectively.  I had the oncotype DX test. That came back with the Recurrence Score of 23. The ER score was 8.9 positive and the PR score was 6.5 positive.  Her2 score was 9.3 negative.

I am now trying to decide whether to do chemo or just hormone therapy.  I am concerned at what appears to me as a large discrepany between the pathology er and pr receptors and the numbers from the oncotype DX test.

Dear vuvee:  The oncotype dx test is for stage 1 and 2, estrogen receptor positive, lymph node negative women to assess the risk of recurrence over a 10 year period.  This is then translated into what benefit there may be to chemotherapy.  A score of 23 is considered intermediate and generally requires a discussion with your oncologist as to the risks versus benefits of chemotherapy vs no chemotherapy.
