MAMMOGRAPHY READING

MAMMOGRAPHY READING

Dear Doctor,

I had a Mammography and USG done of both breasts recently, received the reports but find it difficult to
understand the same.
Can you please explain this to me in a very simple and easy way so that I can understand it ?
Just for your info, I had a fibroid removed from my left breast about 13 years go which was benign.
Since last 2 years, a lump/hardness has reappeared at the same spot and that is why I have done these tests.
Moreover, sometimes I keep getting a pain at that particular spot, on and off.

MAMMOGRAPHY REPORT OF BOTH BREATS
Craniocaudal and mediolateral oblique views of both breasts show dense glandular elements mixed with fatty tissue.
An opacity without microcalcification is noted in superomedial aspect of right breast ?  SOL.
Lobulated opacity suspected in subareolar region of left breast ?  SOL
Skin and nipple outlines appear normal.
Suggested USG of both breasts for further evaluation.

USG REPORT OF BOTH BREASTS
There is a 15.9 x 9.3 mms hypoechoic lesion in the superomedial quandrant of right breast.
It has smooth margins.  Another similar lesion is seen in the areolar region of left breast.
It measures 17.3 x 6.2 mms in size.
Tiny cysts with surrounding echogenic fibrous change are seen in the superolateral quadrant of both breasts.

Dear lulu4444:  These reports state that you have dense breast tissue.  Dense breast tissue can make mammograms difficult to read.  You also have two small densities (one in each breast).  These are solid rather than fluid filled (cystic).  They have smooth borders.  Smooth borders may be less concerning for cancer than irregular borders.  Whether additional investigation is needed will depend upon the interpretation of the radiologist as well as your doctor.  You should discuss this with your physician.
