night sweats

by phyl, Feb 05, 2002 12:00AM
I am 18 months post partial mast. for intermed. grade malig. phylloides tumor. For the past 4 weeks, I have been having bad night sweats. Taking no meds, and I'm 36, so I think I can rule out drugs or menopause. Are night sweats a symptom of breast sarcoma recurrances? Should I call oncologist or wait. Also, I am up for my yearly scans. Is a whole body ct scan better than an mri? Or what about pet scans- I heard they pick up the smallest details. Since this cancer is so aggressive, I want to know if it's back earlier rather than later! Thank You.

Dear phyl:  I have not been able to locate any information that suggests that night sweats have been associated with recurrence of phylloides tumor.  It is technically possible to begin the process of menopause at age 36 but it is not common.  We would recommend that you contact your physician so that your night sweats can be evaluated.  In terms of followup for your breast cancer, different scans have different uses, one is not necessarily better than another - they evaluate different things. You should discuss this with your doctor.  recommended.
