Hi I was diagnosed 2 years ago with Chiari malformation . My only symptoms is dizziness and balance issue with ear noise and sensitivity. My question is has anyone else ever had this as ther only symptoms and gotten successful results from the surgery ? It seems very drastic at this point and unless it is going to work I wont go through with surgery. Any input on this would be appreciated :)
Not that I want to be a pessimist, but I feel we all should have testing to make sure it is not nerve impingment or damage that prevents us from feeling more symptoms....as that is a possibility...
Have u had tests to rule out a syrinx, disk issues, sleep apnea, ICP, POTS, ehlers-danlos, tethered cord, vitamin and mineral as well as thyroid issues?
Many can go with just being monitored....but u should try to avoid activities that may trigger symptoms to flare...Chiari symptoms also cycle, so u may be in what I consider a down cycle where u do not notice or can manage with the ones u do notice....how ever added stress or too much activity of certain types can trigger symptoms as well as a fall, MVA or even a sneeze....I felt my symptoms were not all that bad when I got my dx....but I had not connected all the dots yet...I had no idea what I later found to be drop attacks were from chiari....I thought I just passed out a few times....and the pain I had in my legs we were told were "growing pains"....so, do some research and look back at all ur aches and pains to see if they may be connected....
But do find out if u have a CSF obstruction or ne other related issue/condition...and then monitor ur chiari.
