COPD and Asbestosis

by MikeOhio, Oct 29, 2009 02:35PM
I am a 56 year old male, non-smoker, diagnosed with asbestosis 6 years ago by chest x ray and HR CAT scan. Multi-year exposure occurred in the early 1970’s. Recent PFT shows a FVE1 of 2.3 L, FEV1/FVC of 60, FVC of 74 and FEF of 33. No response to bronchodilator. Recent chest x ray shows scarring in both lung bases with hyperinflation, no CHF noted. Recent revised diagnosis of moderately severe COPD with obstructive airflow and restrictive pulmonary disease.

Current symptoms include chronic chest pain, shortness of breath, chronic fatigue, dizziness and morning headaches.

Given this information, how does asbestosis affect the prognosis of someone in my age group compared to that of former and current smokers with similar symptoms and diagnosis?
