Spirometry results

by jorgemail93, Jan 22, 2009 02:43PM
I made a spirometry and the results were as follows Fev1 = 58, Fvc = 77  Fev1/Fvc = 77
Dr advised me this is a restrictive pattern. What does it means and if the 58 in Fev1 can be reversed thru adequate
therapy, smoking cessation, etc. My age is 60 years and also what should I expect in relation to these numbers.
Thanks
Jorge

Are these your pre or post results?  If these are your post results(after the inhaler), then you have BOTH restrictive and obstructive disease.  The fev1 at 58 shows moderate obstruction.  The FVC of 77 shows mild restriction.

If your FEV1 of 58 was AFTER you used the inhaler, then the obstruction will not reverse.  You can stop the FEV1 from dropping anymore by doing everything in your power to quit smoking.

Check out this great website, it'll give you some helpful info about lung function testing!
